Blue Budgerigar

Blue budgerigars was first seen in 1910 with a brilliant body and white face. They are bred in three shades of blue: Sky Blue is the palest, Cobalt is the brightest, middle shade, and Mauve is the darkest, which is a deep blue with a purple tone.

Budgerigars need natural perches of varying diameter, half to one inch. Narrow wood and plastic perches of uniform diameter can cause foot problems. Replace with thick and thin branches of fruit wood such as apple.

Budgerigars pick out each seed when they eat and crack it open and then drop the husk; as a result, their food soon becomes mixture of whole seeds and empty husks. Every day, take the food container, hold over a garbage can, can blow gently to remove the husks.

Male and female budgerigars are distinguished by the color of the cere – the bald patch of skin at the base of the beak that surrounds the nostrils. This color difference develops after 6 months. In male birds the cere is blue, in female birds it is tan.
