Is it possible for a cat to suffer from heat exhaustion?

• Cats are heat-loving creatures, but they can still suffer from heat exhaustion if exposed to sufficiently high environmental temperatures for long enough.
  
• The most common cause of heat exhaustion is leaving cats in a car in warm weather, when the temperature can rapidly rise, but it is also not uncommon for a cat to curl up for a snooze inside a tumble dryer, which is then switched on without anyone realising that the cat is inside.
  
• A cat that is suffering from excessive heat will show obvious signs of restlessness and discomfort. It will pant excessively, salivate profusely, and eventually collapse into a coma.
  
• The immediate treatment is to lower the body temperature by bathing the cat in cool water, but any cat that has been affected should then receive prompt veterianary attention.
