Ferret Tricks: Can You Teach Your Ferret A Few Tricks?

Ferret tricks can be taught. In fact, these little guys are pretty smart little animals. If your pet is one that is ready to learn a few new tricks, you can teach them to do so. But, remember that the ferret does not usually enjoy sitting sit, so you will need to provide for small training sessions that are full of stimulating activity for them. When you do this, your ferret is more likely to pay attention to what you are doing and get the job done right.

To train your ferret, the first thing that you need to do is to get their attention. This really is no small feat when it comes to the ferret. They are curious and want to find something else to do. The best way to do this is to do it in an area that they are familiar with so they are less interested in getting off of your shoulders and exploring. In fact, if you can teach your ferret to stay on your shoulders, you are doing the first trick. To teach them this, you will want to encourage them. If they do fall, make sure to make a nice loud NO! so that they realize this was not a good thing.

One thing to note about the ferret is that he is going to do tricks only if there is something in it for them. So, you’ll need to have a few ferret treats to give him. You’ll want to reward him for everything that he does.

You can teach ferrets a number of different tricks including to sit up, stay on your shoulders, roll over, and you can teach him to walk with you on his leash. You can even teach him to come when you make a certain sound. Again, to teach tricks to the ferret, you’ll want to offer him a reward only when he does what you want him to do.
