Hi everyone
Last week i got 2 really cute gerbils, Silky and Smudge, a Siamese and Lilac.
Firstly, i am worried that Silky may have red nose, but i cannot be sure. If some one could tell me how to post photos i can show you one of her nose and then you can tell me if it is o.k or not. Please help, im really worried.
And secendly i am planning on breeding them soon(they're on 8 weeks at the moment - really cute!) And i want to know if the mum and dad can bring up a second litter with the first one in there - or is this really dangerous. By the way i'm only breeding for 2 or 3 litters and yes, i have done mounds of research and i know what i'm doing apart from that. THanks so much.
Please help Silky!

Umm how can you know know if something is wrong with her nose? Is it normal looking or is it crusty looking? Anyways, Register at a site like picturetrail.com and upload the pics to an album.
Right click on the pic and click on "Properties"
Highlight the URL.
Paste in this box on the forums http://www.petshub.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif
And usually red noses are just the result of the wrong kind of bedding, digging in corners, or you have a crapcage with bars.
And are you sure you've done a ton of reserach? Cause that is a pretty common topic that is usually mentioned on all the sites that talk about breeding..
Anyways. NO. It's not a good idea to leave an entire litter with the parents. It can be dangerous and stupid because there will be a ton of inbreeding and multiplying and fighting.
To have ONLY 2 litters you need to take out ALL the males and put them together in one cage. Leave ONLY 1 or 2 daughters in with the mom and remove the rest.
Then seperate males and females again.

Ya i have done 'tons of research'
all the websites say how to treat it, what it is etc, and i kno waht it is i just was not absolutely ure whether silky had it or not.
i've actually come to the conclusion that he did but it has cleared up now. You see we bought him from abreeder who kept 'um in sawdust and i keep my gerbils in like soft bedding kinda stuff.
It stopped being so scabby and bleedy now and ther's just a litte bald patch. :)
thanks for all your help anyways.

I know, i know, but is it ok to leave the 1st litter in until the second are like a week old (and then take out all the gerbies that will cause more breeding - both litters, etc. etc.). And i don't mean the whole litter, just a few for a brief time. What i meant to ask is would the first litter help look after look after the new babies. Of course im not planning to leave them together forever. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :o
and also, just out of pure interesting is neutering a really really bad idea.
hey dont blow the house down after me asking that. i was just wondering
thanks :rainbow:
