Hi there,
U did not mention what type of bedding u're looking for. In any case, for pine shavings, Witte Mollen is the best value for money. Only $4.50 for a 2.5kg pack, & the shavings is more refined than that of SLUIS or Vitakraft's. As for paper pellets, u can try Carefresh. They're supposedly more absorbent than wood shavings & is grey in colour. Another bedding u can try out is All Pets' Pine. It comes in wood coloured pellets which crumbles into dust when in contact with the hamsters' urine. However, I would only recommend this if u're keeping dwarf hamsters. All Pets Pine has been known to cause minor cuts to Syrian hamsters' feet. Hope this is of use to u.

Witten Mollen, i heard about this brand too. Does witten mollen or carefresh consist of dust? I would prefer to get a almost dust-free bedding.
Vitakraft is too 'dusty' and irritates the nose of my hamster and myself easily.
Thanks so much.

Hi,
Seems like u're allergic to wood shavings. In tt case, steer clear of Witte Mollen, SLUIS & Vitakraft wood shavings! U can try All Pet Pine (wood-coloured hard pellets) or Carefresh bedding (grey paper pellets). All Pet Pine retails for abt $5.50, while Carefresh retails for abt $8. I think both come in 1kg packs. Both r kinda pricey (esp. Carefresh), but at least u won't be sneezing away when changing the bedding. IMO, Carefresh is better, cos it's as soft as wood shavings, yet less dusty. All Pet Pine is too hard & sharp...doesn't seem to be comfy for the hamsters.

Hi,
You are right, i am always sneezing non-stop while i change the beddings. That means i am left with the choice of Carefresh then, since Pet Pine is too sharp.
Can my hamster eat Carefresh? I mean can my hamster nibble on it and will have have it's live in danger?
Thanks.

Hello,
Yeah, guess Carefresh bedding is ur best bet then. I doubt ur hamster will actually munch on the paper pellets. Probably it'll collect some in its' mouth to make a nest. Pls do remember, even tho' Carefresh bedding is more absorbent, u still have to change the bedding & wash the cage thoroughly (with soap) once a week.

It'll collect some in its' mouth to make a nest?! http://petshub.com/ubb/eek.gif What if the bedding is already soaked with pee? It'll still put it in the mouth?
I have never seen my hamster putting bedding in the mouth before, except food of course.
So it is alright that it nibble on carefresh, right? Wont have life in danger, right? Just have to make sure, hope you don't mind.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Uh, the hamster will not stuff the bedding into its' cheek pouch (at least, none of my hamsters do tt). Instead, it will use its' teeth to hold the bedding (so theoretically, it's in the mouth) to make the nest. No worries abt it.

Hello,
Debbie, are you sure that carefresh is dusty? I and my hamster wouldn't want to go sneezing non-stop. *choo* http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif
Yinx, do you think it could be due to different shipment, packaging, etc?
My vitakraft bedding is fast finishing soon, and i can buy my bedding anytime from now.
Thank you.

Hi Esther,
Yeps, I made a mistake - Carefresh does not come in the form of pellets. It looks very much like shredded bits of grey paper (think of paper mache).
Personally, I do not have a problem with dusty bedding, hence I use Witte Mollen woodshavings. However, one of my friends is allergic to 'dusty' bedding & uses Carefresh, which doesn't make him sneeze.
Can't really think of any other dust-free bedding, other than Carefresh. As I've mentioned b4, All Pet Pine sorta disintegrates into dust when the hamster urinates onto it, so I reckon it's a lil dusty too.
Maybe u can check out Carefresh b4 making up ur mind.

With bedding you should stick to natural pine. It is best for the hamsters. I use katee which i get for 10.99 for 141 liters. The hamsters are allergic to most of the others. Or if you have a paper shreader that would be good too.
