Hi,

I'll try my best to answer ur qns based on what I know.

1) Hamsters do not need any light at night. They r almost blind (have extremely poor vision), & rely on their other senses to move around.

2) Winter whites (ww) r a subspecies of dwarf hamsters. Amongst the various subspecies of dwarf hamsters, ww r the easiest to rear (in my opinion). Easy to tame, handle etc.

3) U *cannot* bathe ur hamsters. Being such small delicate creatures, they can easily catch a chill & die from pneumonia. They will also suffer from stress. Hamsters r very clean creatures (constantly preening themselves), hence u do not have to worry abt their hygiene. Do remember to change the bedding (woodshavings) & wash their cage once a week. Else, they'll really start to stink http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

4) Oh well, many kinds of diseases can kill hamsters. For more details, pls check out : http://www.hamsters.co.uk/health.htm

As a 1st-time hamster owner, u may like to check out the Complete Hamster Site. The website is (www.hamsters.co.uk). Excellent website on everythg abt hamsters.

Hello Eddie,

So, have you got your hamsters? Do let us know about your new addition. My mother hamster, has given me my new addition of babies recently.

Hear from you.

Hi, congrats on getting your hammy. I was thinking I wanted to put just a tiny little light above my hamster cage so I could watch her better at night. I'm looking around for the right kind.

Hi Karen,

When looking for a light do not use the flourescent kind. They emit light intermittently (similarly to a strobe light to human eyes). This may cause irritability to your hamster.

The table lamp is a better choice but it's heat generating and should not be used throughout the night. http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Seb. Thanks for the great tip. Lord knows with my new little nervous baby, I don't need anything to make her more nervous!
