Why squeak?

Hi.

Just wondering whether anyone can help me here. my hamster sometimes squeaks after i have played with it. is it lonely and wants attention? don't quite seem to understand why. help.

Are they syrians or dwarves?

Most syrians do not squeak when they are adults and if they do squeak only when they are very young. Even then only the nervous ones squeaks a lot. Such hamsters must be tamed frequently so that they are used to human contact otherwise they will become very unsocial when they are adults.

Dwarves are more vocal and squeaks often. My WWs squeaks a lot, especially when they are wrestling with each other. They are very tamed and squeaking is more a form of expression for them http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Jacqy. Yes! My syrian hammy would squeak whenever she wanted to come out and play. She was very insistent sometimes. She would stand by her door and just peep peep peep. It was so adorable and she was such a love-bug. I kept looking in books, but nobody discussed it. At last another squeaker. Your hammy must be very cute indeed.

Mine is a syrian hamster and let me introduce him to you - his name is soda =) and he's a real sweetie and sleeps a lot. just like the owner

he usually squeaks after i put him back into the cage or when he sees me near his cage. maybe he just wants company?

Jacqy and Karen, interesting to know about a squeaking hamster. I think it is really cute to hear them squeak. I wish mine would.

Hi Susany (and San), ZZ (and your brood of 21), and Jacqy (mother of Soda). My new Hammy's name is "Dini", as in Houdini. She escaped three times the first day I brought her home and the name stuck. She's a pistel. Right now she's very little so she's "teeny weeny dini". I'm in the process of taming her (or maybe she's taming me). My squeaker was named Russell, she just died, she was old. I really miss her. I named her Russell before I knew she was a she. I changed it to Rosalind Russell, but Ros never caught on and she remained just Russ. Its nice to find so many hammy people!
