My hammie Rodney keeps curling up and falling asleep loads during the night... on his wheel on the floor etc
I'm a bit worried as i thought seeing as he has been asleep for a lot of the day he would be alert and awake. Its nearly 11:30pm and his eyes are shut, i say his name and he opens his eyes.
Is he just tired from running around loads?
My b/f says that when he saw Rodney at 2amish yesterday and he was asleep, we are getting a little concerned.
What do u peeps think? Am i worrying over nothing, he is eating a drinking ok but sleeping loads! (Like now!!!)
Thanks

I've always found this behavior to be quite normal for my hams.

Frank, my former syrian... used to fell asleep a lot. I even thought that he was narcoleptic (sp?). I always found him sleeping in odd places... in the middle of a tube going down... in his food bowl... on the wheel... I once saw him running on the wheel and slowly fall asleep while running... He was always healthy... I'm not sure how old he was, but I got him he was an adult already and he was with me for a year. He died of an uknown accident inside his cage. I found him hurt inside his cage and he died before I could take him to the vet.

Hamsters can sleep for 20 out of 24 hours, they are all different, some are lazier than other just like people.

Yeah, it sounds normal. My hammy will get up at about 8:00 pm and walk around a little, and then she goes back to sleep and gets up at about 11:00 pm. On weekdays by the time I'm up at 6:00 am, she's already fast asleep. The only thing that is bad about that is I don't get to play with her too much because she's always asleep!

We all worry about things at some point. It just comes naturally when you're taking care of these little guys.
Does he like broccolli? I've never tried giving Snoopi any, but knowing her she would probably like it.

yea, hehe, never gave him it before til other day. bought some for my rabbits as i wanted to give them something different instead of carrot or apple. i only gave him a little piece and he held it in his paws and ate it, bless :)
I am just introducing some veg to him slowly as i dont wanna give him an upset tummy.
He's a little piggy tho, probably would eat the whole lot if i let him, hehe

My furball black and white Teddy, Panda, is a big sleeper too. Most of the time he's curled up in his bedding fast asleep, and I have to move it if I'm giving out cheese or something. He wakes right up when he smells food, takes it from me, eats it in his bed, and goes right back to sleep after.
I always hope to be awake when he gets up, so I can take him out of his cage. He's a big baby who just loves to be held and cuddled. :)
