Hello hamsters lovers,

Well, i got my hamster running on the new wheel. But it is peeing in the wheel!
I have to clean and wash it really often, if not it really smells pretty bad.
How can i prevent this? How can i 'teach' my hamster not to pee in the wheel?

Hi,

I am also facing the same problem with my hamsters. They seem to pee in the wheel more often than in their "toilet".

I wash their wheels very often too. What type of wheel are you using? With gaps or without gaps?

Hi,

I face the same problem with one of my hamsters too. She prefers to pee on her pink wheel (w/o any gaps) than on the woodshavings.

Maybe u can try using the woodshavings to soak up the urine, then place the soiled woodshavings in a corner of the cage (where u want the hamster to pee at). Wash the wheel thoroughly to remove all traces of urine. Hopefully, the hamster will catch on & not urinate in the wheel.

Hi all. Well my hammys pee and poo in their wheels too. I think they get running and don't want to stop long enough to go to their toilet. I used to have a real nice wheel name brand "wodent". Solid bottom, made of heavy plastic but hard to clean. I just bought a neat metal wheel, powder coated and again solid bottom. The poo falls out the sides as they run and I can wipe it clean very easily. I got the wheel mail order from fern.

Hi all

I have a problem with that, when my hammies are in their exercise ball LOL http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif I know it's time they go back when I hear their little poops bouncing around in the ball LOL...

But I guess when they are in there, where else can they go right! http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hello All,

petcrazy, i have a wheel-ball too. And San pee and poo in the ball. It is hilarous to see the poo turning in the ball, falling on her. LOL. But i do put some wood shaving in the ball to absorb her pee. I cannot tolerate having pee 'poured' over her body. She really smells after each and every run in the wheel. http://petshub.com/ubb/eek.gif But putting the shavings in, helps lessen a lot.

Ham and pinkie, try to clean the wheel and wash it with soap. Try to elminate the pee smell. But i think "habits die hard", because San still do it on her wheel, even though i wash and scrub and soak the wheel in the water to rid the smell. http://petshub.com/ubb/frown.gif

That's a good Idea about putting a little bit of shavings in the ball I never thought of that.

I will have to give that a try tonight.
