active only at night.

Dearest all, my hamsters (russian campbells) become active at night only so i find it hard to play with them. Can any one help me???

Hi Amanda. Yes, its frustrating that Hammys seem to get up when we are going to bed. I find that if I feed mine earlier, say around 7 or 8 pm, she will get up to eat, especially if its something special. I can then sometimes play with her for awhile.

One way you could play with your hammie is make sure all the lights are off in the room. Our hammie is the same way. This is the only way we get to see our hamster. I hope this works for you.

Yeah, hamsters are nocturnal, so don't wake them up during the day to play with them because they'll be grumpy and they might bite you. Play with them on their terms:)

It's wierd because my hamster stays awake until 8 or 9 a.m. but then she wakes up really early around 1,2,or 3 for a long time, goes back to sleep for a while, comes out again and so on and so forth...she has a very unusual schedule for a hamster.:huh:
I figure it is because she is young and probably has a ton of energy that needs to be burned up.

Try to keep her in a dark room during the day and if you can turn a light on during the night in the room she's in. My hammy wakes up around 7-8p.m. it gets dark in that room around that time, so I can get a little playing time with him before i go to sleep and lightens up around 5-6am in the morning in that room. he usually is sleeping before 5am

my hammie wakes up at about 8 so he is awake when im up...i stay up late past 12 midnight so i get to play with him...

My hamster usually wakes up about 11 and goes to sleep at like 5 or 6. :)

My hammie wakes up around 5 or 6 pm. Goes back to bed for a bit. Most of the time he is awake when I come down in the morning around 7am.

Our hamster Ping is the same way. He is just a lazy little hammy.

you can't change there sleeping times so just don't bug her.Hamsters are nocturnal.
