Hi,
Maybe you can give the same food but give a smaller amount. That could help. http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif
Btw, what do you feed your hamster?

Thanks!
I am feeding some hamster mix food which contains the sunflower seeds, some pellets, some hard 'stone' for grinding their teeths.
Are these food fine for my hamster? My hamster loves them. Any recommendation for some hamster food?
Hear from you. http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif

Maybe you can feed him once a day and dun give him treats. Or put him on a vegetable diet for perhaps a week or two.

I didn't know that treats are a factor too. I must have given too much. Thanks for your advise! http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hear from you soon. http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi,
Have no idea if this topic is closed yet...anyway, here's my 2 cts worth. To put ur hamster on a diet, do not feed him treats eg. extra sunflower seeds, yoghurt drops etc. Just feed him his usual hamster foodmix once a day. Does ur hamster have a wheel to exercise on? If he does & simply refuses to work out, get a hamster ball & let him exercise in it. Do remember to put ur hamster back into its' cage after 20 mins of running in the hamster ball, else he might get dehydrated. Do watch that ur hamster does not tumble down the stairs too. As for veggies, *no* u *cannot* put him on a strict vegan diet. This is cos too much veggies will cause diarrhoea in hamsters. Just feed him a small piece of veggie daily + his usual hamster foodmix. I guess the main thing is to cut down on his treats & make it work that body! Oh, & pls do not make any sudden changes to ur hamster's diet. They have very delicate stomachs...so u have to introduce their new diet slowly by feeding them a mixed portion of old food & new food within a one wk period (increase the new food portion gradually). Hope this helps.

No, no, this topic isn't closed yet.
Thanks so much. You sure do sound really experienced with hamsters. How many do you have and what breed?
Just like to reconfirm, let my hamster run for 20 minutes? Can he take such a long run?
Hear from you soon.

Hi there,
I have a total of 9 hamsters. My hamster population consists of 1 golden Syrian, 2 argente campbells, 5 winter white pearls & 1
winter white normal. Don't worry, u're not the only one with an obese hamster. One of my ww pearls is really fat too. 20 mins is the approximate maximum amt of time the hamster should spend in the hamster ball. Else, he might get dehydrated. Just let ur hamster do that daily, & he might slim down. It's real easy for hamsters to get fat, but difficult for them to slim down, so don't expect to see fast results! Btw, what is ur hamster's breed?

I agree with you, din. Yinx do sound really experienced with hamsters. I was shocked to know about the number and breed of hamster Yinx keeps.
All the best in the slimming process of your hamster.

i've a wheel for my dwarf campbell hammy but all he does in it is sleep. Perhaps i should get him a 'wheel ball' so whenever he moves he's gotta exercise!
My hammy also doesnt like to sip frm his bottle he prefers to lick moisture off my hands whenever i carry him.
Any clue y?

Hi Sarah,
Is the water bottle working properly? Perhaps it is not dispensing water well. To check, place the water bottle in its' usual position in the hamster cage/tank, & touch the tip (ball-bearing) of the bottle. If no water comes out, shake the bottle & hang it at a different angle. If this still doesn't work, then perhaps u'll have to get a new water bottle.

the bottle is dispensing water correctly. whenever i put the nozzel to my hammy's mouth he just smells it n turns away..
my hammy also doesnt like to nibble on the grinding stones in his food.. i notice them untouched everytime i clean up his tank.

My hamster Skittles has gotten so fat... I fed her too many treats, which also caused her to get the runs, and now I have to give her medicine. She is so fat that she wobbles when she walks and can't keep her balance. But I guess she is also pretty old...

I feed my hammie bonanza ... it has a variety of yummy foods and they all seem to love it. Also for a treat try giving a couple pieces of dried cat food or dog food.... Also you can give them milkbones (dog) for a treat.. it helps grind their teeth, they love it, and it also keeps them from getting fat or having any health problems... I give them about 6 pieces of cat food because I have 5 dwarves in my two connected cages but I only do this every couple of days... not every day. And I drop a milkbone in their cage about once a week... it takes them forever to eat it.

Nuuu! I saw blood in the corners of her mouth and held her all morning while crying. My mom said she was probably going to die so I layed with her trembling and sleeping in my hands all this morning. Finally my mom wanted to hold her. Again, she was trying to sleep but was in too much pain. She started to squeal and cough up blood. Blood streamed down her face and was coming out of her nose and mouth. I was still crying hard, and then she died. I haven't been hungry since, but I know I should eat. I feel so tired and sick from crying all day. She wasn't like other hamsters...she never bit and loved everyone. But I guess everyone feels that way about their pets, and it is always really sad when one dies. I know she is at the Rainbow Bridge playing with her little sister, Bear the dwarf hamster. Bear died last year on memorial day. It was shocking how well Skittles and Bear got along because one is a dwarf and one is a Syrian. They didn't share a cage, but I bet they could. They loved to play together! Sorry, all of this sadness is making me ramble...
