When I was 6 I got a hamster for my birthday, And took good care of it too. But when we went on vacation we hired our neighbors to watch her. (Thier daughter is kinda my friend now) Well even though we told them to remember to put the books on top ovf the cage, (to keep her from escaping) they forgot!! She got out and chew up my moms favorite plants, dug up tiny squares in the carpet and chewed a little on the couch! My mom was mad, and I mean mad!!!! And even though I didn't do a thing, she fobid hamsters! Until now!! YAY!!! I'm 12 years old and loooovve hamsters! I'm probaby the youngest one here, but please help me anyway. I want ALL the tips you can give!
Oh and back to the "hamster escaping thing", their daughter, witch is kinda my friend told me that her mom had the stupid idea of put out a plate of peanut butter so the hamster would get stuck in it!!! I was mad but laughing anyway! Her mom is really kinda stupid or she was reallllly desprate!!:looko:
I hope you enjoyed "The Hamster Horrer Story" as much as did, puh

Well, dwarf hamsters are social, so they can live with another hamster of it's species. THey get about 3 inches long and live for about two years. You take care of them just as you would your old hamster, but, I find they do better living in an aquarium because they can easily squeeze out of most cage bars. If you d get dwarfs you need to handle them each day, because if you don't, they will forget human touch and smell, and become wild. Here is a good website where you can read about the different types of dwarfs and how to care for PetWebSite (http://www.petwebsite.com/about_hamsters.htm) them

Nope, you're not the youngest one here. ;)
The website Sapphirewolf gave you is great. If you do get an aquarium, make sure the top allows for ventilation. Other than that, I think a lot of your questions will be answered if you go to that website. :)

If your new hamsters get out, I totally recommend getting a haveahart trap.
It's just like in the cartoons.. the hamster enters a cage, touches a plate of food, and the door comes down.
The hamster is safe and unharmed, and I ALWAYS caught my hammies in a night or two.
Here is the link for your reference.

I've been wondering what exactly those havahart traps were! They would definitely be useful, I can't stand the things some traps do...
You probably took great care of your first hammy, and it's sad that it got out. So be sure that you always close the cage. There will be times when you will leave the house and stress out about whether or not you closed the cage. Every morning when I'm on the bus to school, I suddenly think I didn't close the cage. If you get into a good habit of closing it, though, you probably won't worry as much.
