sorry for not being specific in my other threads...i do not have much time on the computer...this is one thread that will probably more specific than the others....

here are my questions...

1.will my two dwarf hamsters mate??? one is a girl and one is a boy, but the male is colored tan with red eyes...the female is colored grayish with black eyes....im just wondering if they would mate because i want to take care of the babys but NOT sell them afterwards...

2.what is the sticky liquid-like thing on the wheel of the hamsters cage? it is not blood because it is not red....but im not sure what color it is because the wheel is blue and i cant tell what color it is...all i knoe is that its sticky....

3. are my hamsters dying??? because they are laying on their sides.....they are not fighting or anything....do you think they are hot or something???

4. how long does it take for the hamsters to get used to you??? because when we first got it they would let us hold them, then, a few days later, after not playing with them for four days, the male bites us...

plz leave some replies....and i hope this thread is more clearly written out.... my hamsters are dwarf hamsters....

Thank you for being more clear. And sorry for biting your head off. :blush1:

1. Color shouldn't matter, but they should be the same type of dwarf. Example: Both Campbells, both Chinese, etc.

2. I'm not sure what the stuff is...maybe someone else will know.

3. They could be hot. It's hard to say. Do you know what the temperature is now? Because my hamster would lay on his stomach spread out when he was hot.

4. Since they are dwarf hamsters, they need human contact every day. It could take anywhere from 2 days to a week, maybe a month or so, to get them tame. With dwarfs hamsters, if you don't spend time with them each day, they will forget human touch and become "wild" again. You have to tame them all over, as if you just got them. But once a syrian hamster is tamed, it is always tame.

I really don't know much about breeding any animal, as I don't think I will ever be ready for such a thing. Someone with more knowledge might reply.

*I just realized this site has more smilies!!*

1. Color DOES NOT matter. I have seen, believe it or not, that two different breeds of dwarfs have bred, but theres only been a couple babies and they havnt looked quite right. But, if they are both dwarfs, yes, they'll most likely breed eventually.

2. Sticky stuff on thw wheel? Does it smell? Sometimes female hamsters "secrete" a little bit. It smells like urine. Maybe thats what it is.

3. Laying on their side? Interesting. Are they active when they arnt sleeping? If they are lisless, or walking funny (circles, wabbling ect.) it might be a vitamin K deficency. If you dont give your hamsters vita drops in their water, go and get some ASAP and add it accordingly.

4. Dwarf hamsters are difficult to tame. They need handleing EVERY day. If you dont have time, dont be surprised if they start to leap from your hands, nip at you or "squeal". And if you have two hamsters together, they will bond to eachother and need extra encouragement to stay friendly.

It sounds like your hamsters are probably just hot, where are you keeping them right now?

The sticky thing on their wheel, maybe urine? Sometimes my hamster would pee or track it onto it's wheel and it made it sticky. I had to wash the wheel weekly. Is it sort of a browny yellow color?

I agree with lilsnoopydog, handle them every day and they will get use to you in time just like most animals.

As for breeding, you should look into it abit more before jumping into it. You could end up with alot of babies to take care of.

Yes, thanks for being more clear.

I only have one thing to add. It's for number three have you smelled it? It might be a little gross but try to see what it smells like for it chould be just pee. Hamsters do that a lot!

Isn't the new smilies cute! :bunny1: :skateboar :snail: :rainbow1: :hamster3: :hamster1: :sheep: :crowded: :toiletpap

I would definately say that the stuff in the wheel is urine. one of my hamsters Digweed uses his wheel as a toilet as well.

I always say that every animal is different and takes their own time to adjust to people.

That's what I was thinking. Everyone else has answered your questions so I won't repeat. :)
