Ello,
Got a question for you all....
My Dwarfs Pee has changed consistancy....
I use clumping litter for small animals
and it was always scoopable, now
it seems to be like tar...I'm not sure
if the litter is differn't or anything,
just wondering if any of you have
had/heard of this problem? The
little booger is the same in nature,
seems perfectly healthy, so any help you could give me on this would be great!
Thnx.

Wow, her nails are long! I never trimmed my hamsters nails in the past... I guess that they trimmed them themselves?
Is it common to need to trim nails, or is it something you have to take your hammy to the vet for?

I also noticed the white fluffy stuf in the front compartments of your habitat, what is that? If it's that fluff they sell in the store, you should remove it immediatly, It can kill your hamster(strangulation, intestinal blockage), and amputate body parts. Please don't think I'm jumping all over you, I just want your hamster to be safe and happy :)

I have always used that hamster fluff and my hamsters live unusually long lives... past the normal two years. I have never heard of it being a problem. They love it for their nests. But if you are worried about it you could just shred some cleenex for your hamster. They will shred it even more them selves and make a cozy little nest out of that.
How often does your hamster actually go through all of those tubes. That must have cost you a fortune to get all those accessories. My cage has that capability too, I just wantn't sure how much the hamster would like the tubes. Is it worth the money?
I've never had to trim my hamter's nails either, but yes the one in the picture seems to have unusually long nails.

Your hamster is adorable! I love her color.
I have no clue about the urine problem, has she been drinking normally? Have you changed her diet at all? Maybe call your vet and ask about it, or take her in if you can.

I just love your hammy!!
About trimming nails, yes, I noticed they were a bit long, too. Sometimes you never have to trim them. I had to take Snoopi to the vet to get her nails trimmed, and after seeing it done I would never do it myself. She was squirming the whole time and she would turn her head around and try to bite. They had a towel around her while doing it and they got her to bite down on the towel instead of them. My first two hammys never needed a nail trim. If they have things in their cage that they can climb on, smetimes it wears the nails down so you don't have to trim. There really isn't a period between nail trims. Some nails grow longer than others. On one hammy it may be every three months, on another it may be every few weeks. It varies a lot!

I'm sorry, but I don't know about the pee thing either. But I do have to comment on all the tubes! We had a cage where the tube went down the side of the cage and connected the top sleeping compartment to the main compartment below. And that little stinker clogged it all up with his bedding one day as he was trying to make himself warm and comfy. I had such a time trying to unpack all that bedding from the tube - he really jammed it in and I don't think he could have unclogged it himself. After that we got rid of the tubes. You don't have any problems like that?

Is this a female hamster? If so, what you may be seeing is a change in her discharge due to her cycles.
"A female Syrian hamster comes into season every 4 days (although this may vary from 3-5 days). When in season the female will be more active and will be receptive to the attentions of a male. Females come into season in the evening and can remain in season for between 4 and 24 hours. Prior to coming into season the female usually emits a strong musky smell and this is often more noticeable in summer months. The day after coming into season the female produces a thick, white discharge from the vagina and the white discharge can sometimes cause the urine to appear cloudy. The female will normally come into season again 3 days after this is noticed. "

This is specific to Syrian hamsters... but I am sure that it would apply somewhat to all female hamsters. Hope that helps!

Thanks for your help.
She is drinking normally.
She is still very active.
Her nails are trimmed by the same
Vet in nature, the hamster itself.
Hamster fluff of any kind is not recommended for YOUNG hamsters.
Adult Hamsters are fine with it. Like
any artificial substance you put in a
Hamsters cage, if the animal is eating
it, you should remove it.
Cleaning the cage is easy if you enjoy
your pet and want it to have a clean
habitat.
