I am seeing too many threads about breeding hamsters, Syrians I assume.
Why do you want to breed?? Unless you are a responsible experienced professional you should NOT be breeding at all.
Litters can be up to 12 - or more - babies. Who will care for them? Dumping them at a pet store is a despicable thing to do, as is keeping them together after a few months.
Adult Syrians should never be kept together.
Stop the breeding!
You want more hamsters adopt or rescue some from shelters or even some pet stores. I have rescued many, including injured hamsters, from pet stores - and I have been happy I did! I was not charged a cent for saving an injured animal.

Yes! Please don't breed if you don't know what you are doing. I bought two hamsters from pet store and one was pregnant, and I didn't know it. Trust me it's not easy. Thank God the mom was a great mom and didn't freaked out like most hamsters do when they have babies, and she only had four babies so I could keep them. Sadly they are sick with wet tail and two of them died. Please! Please! If you want baby hamsters, then buy then as babies. If the pet store doesn't have any, find a breeder. Some pet stores breed their own.

The real problem is that so many think they know what they're doing. They either think it's easy, or it's fun. Maybe they think that since it's natural it's something that should happen. But, more often than not, the problem is that someone thinks they know enough, when in reality, they know nothing... Some just don't even think about it. It's impulsive. All that is in their mind is, "Aww, cute babies!"
Even the most knowledgable and wise realize that, no matter how much they know, there is ALWAYS more to learn.

I also think its a bad idea, there are so many people that breed and in many cases i've heard about they fought to death. Just keeping them together till "they breed" can cause death thats what people dont understand. Alot of people that breed don't even know how to sex a animal. I myself breed but I have the room, experience, time, and money. Also I try to find homes before there born and most of the time have all of them sold and on hold when they turn 8 weeks. PLEASE if your going to breed keep in mind all of these factors and if your breeding for money dont even bother. I only sell them for money to make sure there not a snack for a snake or other animal. But in the long run I would much rather see a animal get a good home then to make money. And im sure most of you feel the same.

Ditto!
I have seen alot of this talk on this and another sections, and I'm quite disgusted.
ALL babies are cute, but they are also a HUGE responsibility! I wish people would understand that.

I have considered breeding Chinchillas but, in the end, decided them being happy was far more important than breeding them. And, I knew that the new babies would be more work. Oh, I believe they're worth the effort, but I'd rather spend that extra effort of caring for babies on my Chinnies, giving them extra love and attention.
I think that another problem may be that too often it is assumed that, since YOU're (not you, Andrea :)) not having the babies it must be easy to breed pets. I mean, you don't go through pregnancy, or go into labor. So it must be easy right? And how can anything SO CUTE be such hard work?
I hope the human race will one day reach a point where the work involved in breeding animals is well known and no one enters into it lightly.

Yeah! Cute little babies! That you can't even touch. Ha! Ha! That was the worse part for me. That and the fact that she hid them so good in her little house I didn't even get to see them that much. I never even knew she was pregnant until I picked her up and four little pink things were sitting there. I freaked. Ha! Ha! No but really, if you want to breed something...at least let it be something you can play with...ha ha!
