Hi, I have just noticed a lump underneath my hamster. Its seems to be internal and near the belly region. I am presuming its a tumour (its not an abcess) as anybody any advice or experienced something similar?
I am seeing a vet shortly..thanks wendy

Dear Wendy,

Yes, quite a few months ago, San has got this lump for several days and was growing bigger and bigger. It was beneath her hind leg. But she was behaving like normal. She eats fine, plays well, and sleeps good. But i was getting serious worried, as the lump was swelling in size.

When i decided to bring her to the vet, the lump burst. Yellowish-white fluid discharged from the lump. It was like a huge pimple bursting, but with lots and lots of yellowish fluids. Only then, i realised that it was a abccess. A really big abccess. Then i used a cotton bud to help clean her lump. It took me about 3 days to clean up the wound and allowing the wound to heal as San keeps licking it.

Now, San is very fine and healthy. She managed to slim down, after i got her a wheel, and is still very naughty and greedy.

Please bring your hamster to a vet soon. I know what you are going through, as i have encounter the worrying part too.

I hope that your hamster has an abccess, as this is considered less risky than a tumor.

All the best and keep us informed.

if the lump is in the middel of the belly it most likely is just the scent gland.
If it is not that it is most likely cancer.
hopefuly not the later.

Hi there, rosie the hamster has been to the vets today and the vet has said her lump is either a cyst or tumour. At the moment, rosie is being treated for loss of fur so until the treatment is ended the vet has advised that he should not operate just yet.
I to was hoping it would be an abcess, but its not. Its definately not a scent glad.
I think it would be better if it is a cyst rather than a tumour, I will just have to wait and see...wendy
