hey kids...

I dont have any hamsters..I just have 3 gerbils...Im really looking into getting 1 dwarf hamster..

I know you got to tame them and stuff..i was wondering, which sex is easier to tame?..and would it be any easier to tame them when they are young..Young enough to be away from there mothers?..If its possible..

I am just curious

thanks

It is mostly a game of luck and chance when you first pick them out, because they are a kinda new breed. But here are some tips:
1. Start puting your hand in the cage when you think it is ready so it starts to learn your sent.
2. A few days later or when you think it is ready get it out with a glove and handle it.
3. If it does not bite then start getting it out with your hand and you are pretty much ready to go!
NOTE: Please start training your dwarf at when it is at least 5 weeks of age!
hope that helped! :D:

Well, I have two boys and a girl and (for me anyway) the girl is a lot nicer. I rescued my dwarfs from an abusive home and they still won't trust anyone and try to bit a lot! They do make really good pets though.

Yes, if you get a young dwarf the taming will go a lot easier! :hamster2:

Hope all goes well!

I have three dwarfs,,,two girls and a boy. My two girls are a dream. i never had to tame them. My one girl licks my hand as soon as i put it in the cage. My boy is a biter. I got him from someone else he was already a year old and had not been very well socialized. I'm still working with him and he's nearly 2!

But that's just mine. could be a coincidence, who's to say?

I haven't found a difference in taming a male or female, but males seem to be more laid back and you get their trust quicker, but that's just my experience.

Yes it would be easier to tame them when they are young, because when they are older if they haven't been handled, they aren't used to it and are most likely going to bite.

Everyone said good things to do, but I wouldn't use a glove at first, it will probably scare the hamster because it will not know what the glove is. It needs to get used to you, not the glove.

When I said the thing about the glove I ment if you ham bites a little more than normal, just so you do not get bit so much, I mean who wants a hand covered in band-aids. lol  Sorry for the confusion:(
