My mom knew about them. They sound kind of fun (for a rock). But I'll stick with rodents. :D

I think there is something wrong with my Pet Rock, it's real fat and lazy. What can I do to get it to exercise?

I had a "pet" rock when I was like, 9. I painted it and colored on it and took it everywhere. As a matter of fact, I think I still have that rock somewhere.

ok ok ok..pet rocks were a fad i believe in the 80's..a very shot-lived one but the dude who invented it's probably in florida right now w/a wicked tan.

basically he had the idea to market rocks as pets, for kids who weren't able to get real pets. he'd take rocks from the beach and sell them for $10 a pop, and they sold like hotcakes. as the guy said in this post, you could paint them, give them names, whatever you wanted...

LoL, I have LOTS of rocks in my yard. It would be a nice summer job, hehe.

My pet rock was just one that I found in Wyoming. It was cool, so I kept it and when we got back home I decorated it. :D I didn't have like a cage or anything for it, it just sat by my bed. I introduced my rock to my dog. I had a weird imagination.

TobyRat
04-25-04, 10:32 AM 04-25-04
LOL :goof: I used to have a whole tub of rocks that I liked to bring in the bath tub with me. I used to shampoo and conditioner them. Did you ever think about getting your rock a friend? When I was little all my rocks had friends. :flippy:

They should start a new fourm called, "Rocks"

I was 9! Didn't have many friends (1 to be exact), and the only pet I had was a dog. I had a weird imagination and thought I could do whatever to a rock and it would never get hurt.

I think everyone has a pet rock at some point in their life. Kids in my 3rd grade class cherished their Pokemon cards as if they were pets.

I rememeber when i was 5 or so, my little friend and I would paint rocks and sell them to our neighbours for .25 cents lol...
When I wanted my first hamster i made a cage outta a box, and put fake food, litter and plastic rat in it to show my parents I was responcable... lol.. Man little kids are so full of imagination, I wish i still had half of what i did as a child.

The 80's was full of stupid ideas.... oh the hair lol :flippy:

Yay! I went to the river yesterday. I swam down to the bottom and picked up a rock and pilfered it. For those of you who don't know what pilfered means, it's to steal. Anyhoo, I named her Sandy!!! :lightbulb  :flippy: :EL:

I used to collect river rocks and paint them. I'd find one, decide it looked like something, then paint it like whatever I imagined. I found one shaped like a whale and turned it into an Orca whale leaping from the ocean.

I also once found dead corral that had been shaped by the waves. It was shaped like a heart -- a heart a young child who wasn't good at following the lines, but a heart all the same -- so I paintd it red and painted the word "Love" on it. I still have it. The paint is coming off. Not that I mind...it still looks like a heart, even without the obvious red paint.

I still never had a pet rock, though...

Cool. I used to collect rocks, then hae them as a family of pets. Then I had them in a fanny pack, and I eventually found them every year when I was cleaning (I clean once a year, cuz I am very neat & organized...) but this year, I found no use for them, so I threw them away. :kaioken:

I actually have a pet rock right now. I painted it myself, it's a wolf(I made it in art class senior year as a project). I don't play with it or anything, it just keeps my hamsters, gerbils and rats safe:lol: I'll try to take some pictures of it to show y'all.

Well...my crabs have slaves :smash: Well...my crabs are like the kings around here and they have these shells to serve food and water to them. Same thing with the rocks-it has water for them and the hermie hut is their shelter slave :angelfly: Heehee. <--MY CRAB SAYS,"You bad rock! Gimme some more water!" They have rocks and this is why I have them at home. They're in the hermie tank and I don't care about them-care free and they are great dishes for food and water for my crabs and they are known and slave shells and slave rocks :eyes: :p Good reason on why I keep them-free slaves outside

My PMC's love their rock. Lolz. But their rock is boring. It never moves ... and it has a hole in the middle of it. I think it got shot in a drive-by. It could just be traumatized.

i still have pet rocks. i made a little room out of them with a jewelry box. i put a little teeny mirror in it and a piece of foam for a bed. i'm so deprived of animals. in 4th grade, my friends had married their rocks to each other. hehe. the whole grade was abuzz with the wedding....(mostly because they thought we were stupid. i happen to be very childish!)

Bought my kids 2 boy gerbils, now we have 14, they make real interesting playmates with Pet Rocks, and you don''t have to worry about compatibility. Gerbils and Pet Rocks were made for each other, just to show you, I'll give you, say, 12 gerbils for free. I gaurantee you will be pleased. And your Rock won't be sad or lazy, It will be playing, and excercising and Happy!!
If you truly love your rock, you will contact me, and I promise, at least 12 HAPPY COMPANIONS are yours.

TobyRat

Cricket fights sound mean! :(

God. . . would you rather have the kids in this world having pet rocks or abusing animals!?

griffinator13
09-17-04, 09:48 AM 09-17-04
Oh my gosh, that is horrible! Those poor, poor crickets. I am calling animal control to come and give your crickets a better home if you are going to be so mean!

You should try fighting bettas, they are more ferocious and can be reused! :)

Don't try to fight rocks. They just ignor each other.

Cornflower, umm, I wasn't calling you stupid.

well, marrying rocks was stupid, i know. but i had a really overactive imagination. and i still do. that's why i have so many nightmares. *shiver* anyway, i wouldn't do cricket, betta or even rock fights. it's just cruel to me. fshepp, i would LOVE to have 12 gerbils, but sadly, it ain't happening. my daddy says that hamsters and other rodents smell, so i can't have any. :(

Do you let the rocks on the furniture? We are thinking about getting a pair of rocks, and have heard that letting them up on the couch will lead to dominance issues...

i had a pet rock, with googly eyes, obviously when i was younger.

well lets all be honest then who treated their cuddly toys as pets too, its the same thing isnt it?

and who had an imaginery pet?

be honest as the majority of us had pets rocks, toys and imaginery pets when we were younger!

I am thinking about getting a pet rock also. I wouldn't put them on furniture, because I have done some research and that COULD lead to problems. Also, I would not get pet rocks from separate breeders because often rocks from different litters will become territorial and fight.

I have a question though. Is it important to get your pet rock neutered? There are not many pet rocks in my neighborhood, but I am not sure if domesticated rocks will breed with wild rocks or not. What kind of vetrinary fees will there be for the fixing and vaccination of a rock?

One more question. What about adopting a rock from a shelter? I have heard that rocks from shelters often suffer from bad temperments, which is why they are given up in the first place... but I don't believe in the euthenization of rocks, and would really like to adopt an older one who is already house-broken.

turtlegirl1073
09-20-04, 04:48 PM 09-20-04
yes, letting rocks onto the couch is VERY bad, because they could become territorial and dominant. i bought my rocks from the Playground Store, and they got sick very soon. a breeder is almost always a better choice. i think that if you monitor your rock VERY well, you don't have to neuter it. neutering rocks can be very costly, as not many vets operate on rocks. rocks are very picky, so they will not breed with wild rocks. rocks from shelters are almost always mean and have temperamental issues, and will snap and nip.

Pet rocks remind me of Nanobabies. Remember those? They were the electronic pets that made noise when they wanted food, water, to be pet, etc. They were a big fad when I was in 6 and 7th grade so about 7 or 8 years ago.

I found a big rock then glued five little rocks onto it as legs and a head then I painted it :P I remember NanoPets!! Those were awesome, in fact I still have mine. I stille like those things :o .
