What kind of cat is the most playful but at the same time very friendly with other pets inside the house? 'Coz I'm thinking of getting a cat instead of a dog to play with my year old Beagle. I need suggestions/opinions please! Thank you so much!

I don't know about particular breeds of cats but I would suggest getting a kitten rather than an adult - that way it will grow up with the dog around and get used to it. One of my cats grew up with a german shepherd, and was fine. I dont have a dog and I imagine she wouldn't be too thrilled with them now though! :)

My friends SPCA Special cat loves her dog. The dog (lab X) & Cat love to groom and play with one another.
The key is to get the cat young. If it came from a household with a dog bonus.
But i think for a cat and dog relationship to happen, the dog really is a key part. If he's going to chase and bark at the cat, most likely they will not become friends.
My dog loves cats. But if they tease her she will chase them, she thinks it's a game. I find cats who arn't scared right off the back, usually end up liking her. Take your dog with you to the SPCA to find a kitten, let the kitten pick you and your dog.

Good Luck.

My cat (I think he's a tabby of some sort) plays with my dog all the time! The dog will be sleeping and Jinx (the cat) will jump on her, bit her ear, and run. We've had him since he was about 3-4 months old, and he's 2 years old now. He's also super snuggly with my mom and I. My mom thinks part of it is because he was sort of neglected, but either way he's great.

Why don't you locate a foster home with cats, that way you can request a cat that has been living in the same type of circumstances you are looking for.

I have a dog and and two cats . And it has been a very easy transition for all of them . The dog is now drinking from the cat bowl and the cats and dog are all sleeping in the dog bed.

My winnie(dog) now has playmates and she loves them both.

But I do agree I think that the cat should be a kitten or a cat that has lived with a dog before.

Why would you get a cat to play with your dog instead of another dog?

I have dogs and cats. My 2yrold is the only one who plays with the cats and other dogs, and he has a lot more fun with the dogs because he can go rougher and they're more of a challenge.

The cats used to play more when they were kittens, now most of them ignore the dog and only one still plays with him like once a week.

My friends small mix terrier dog loves to play with her Ferret. They are Best friends. It's so cute to watch them rolling around and play fighting, then sleeping together all curled up.
My dog's LOVES my gerbils, mind you I do not let them play together on the floor or anything, she just sits and wags her tail staring at them in their cage.

My black cat was quite literally raised by my black lab. She thought he was her little puppy, and taught him a lot of wierd stuff. For a long time, the cat would bark, not meow. Now that he hasn't seen her for awhile, it's turned into a chirp and meow.

I got my collie and my cat at the same time, and they love to play with each other. Taffy will dart in with her nose towards Sebastian and Sebastian will swat her with his paw. Once, he sat back on his hind legs, she darted in, and he smacked her on the muzzle with both paws so hard I heard it all the way across the room. ^_^ Bastian has started playing with Aussie, my new ACD as well--he'll sit on my lap, Aussie will try to nip at him, and Sebastian will smack him with his paws and bite at his ears and muzzle.

My puppy (rat terrier) loves to play with our ferrets... they chase each other all over the living room. They love to hide behind/run behind the entertainment center because it;s a straight shot and can get out either side. So Sydney (the puppy) goes to one side to wait for them to come out, they go out the other side. She hears them and it's goes on and on LOL.

My cat lol... that's a different story... some cats are good with other animals. Mine is more of a loner. She hates pretty much anyone but ME lol. When we move into a new place, she HIDES for at least a month. She is usually under the bed and only comes out to eat, drink and potty. So she gets fat lol. Then she warms up and is back to normal. When my fiance and i moved in together, she hid under the bed and ran from him for at least 5 months. She's extremely anti social. She likes him now, but she's very finaky. We got the ferrets and she hisses at them. She sorta "plays" with the dog lol. It consists of her siting there, the dog running past and her swatting at the dog.

Anyways, it's not particular to any breed. It's the personality and Brandy Pup is right you can find shelters that have dog friendly cats. They definitely exist :)

My parents dog used to take the kitties that were running around wild (yeah all imbreed and really digusting i know ) in as his "kids" he got really attached to a couple of them. They used to sleep in his dog house with him (he was an outside dog). He accidently rolled over on one when he was sleeping and was absolutely crushed when he realized what he did. :( I miss him.

A good playfull house cat if you are wondering about breeds are either ragdolls, ragamuffins or forestcats, they are large breeds and will end up about the same size/weight as your dog.
None of my four cats were raised with dogs but they have never had a bad experince with a dog so they just see them as being an ugly cat. Their first experince with a dog (actually 4 large dogs) made them think but they had 0 fear of them.
What I would do is finding a cat that isn't too young (beagles can be rough) but still young enough to want to play all the time(4 months to a year is a good age) and one that is or has been indoor only (outside kitties tend to have bad exp. with dogs as dog owners find it funny to let their dogs go after cats)

I hope your search ends well :)

I think it's hilarious to watch my dog chase my cat...because the cat chases right back... they go from the living room to the bedroom and back and forth... it's very comical :)
