Hi everyone !

I have got a question. What makes a show quality hamster ? Some pet shops claim that they sell show quality hamsters. How can I be sure ? I have got a cubby little dwarf hamster. He has really thick and soft fur, large beady eyes and a round body. He is really tame. Is he good enough to be entered in hamster shows ?

Show quality animals are those which meet a set of standards set by a group or club, therefore it is entirely possible that a pet store does sell animals that meet that confirmation.

However, I would check with the local club and make sure there are no other requirements, like pedigrees or genetic backgrounds.

hello,

I find it hard to trust petshops when they tell me they have show quality hamsters for sale. After all, they are out there to make money. Even if they tell you their breeding pair are show winnners. THe babies may not turn not to be of the same quality. It helps but it's not guranteed. I think Petshops should do up a pedigree paper for them, like chinchillas in singapore. With their family tree. eg, the dad and mom's colour and everything. It's better tht way than telling customers tht particular hamster is of show quality. even judges' have their own preferences. It's better for u to read up and decide for yourself if that particular hamster is worth buying.
