Hi hamtarogurl..I wrote this for my friends board I'm on in the health Care Section for any of the members to use....so going to post it here for you..hope it's of some use for you too..

I just wanted to post this for any of you who have hamsters with eye problems. I have used this for many years with my hamsters and have seen very good results from a Boric Acid wash to kill any infection in my hamster eyes..from runny eyes or eyes with a bit of a infection in them...And 'No' it don't burn or sting the hamsters eyes..I have used it in my eyes first..Wanted to add if the hamsters eye is bleeding or any visible signs of cuts or the eye is bulging then off to the vets I would suggest you go..This has worked for me well in the years of having hamsters here.. so thought I would post it in case it maybe of some help to you.

‘Boric Acid Bath’
Mix a half a cup of boiled and cooled down room temperature water with one tsp of Boric Acid. (Available at drug stores)

...Using a very clean cloth or a Q-tip. Bath the little ones eyes with the Boric Acid wash...2 to 3 times a day. Dab the eye gently so as not to irritate the eye anymore then it already is...wash your hands very good before and after handling your hamster. Keep the hamster out of bright lights and in a dark room...as eyes problems can be very painful if subjected to bright lights. So dark is better.
