We've been trying for a few months now to figure out a way to get that ultra-hip hairless dog look on our cocker. Shaving him is a royal pain as I'm sure you can figure out, it grows back too fast and is time consuming on our part. Nair and chemicals irritate his skin too much and he usually ends up licking too much and his tongue swells up. A friend suggested electrolysis, but I imagine that would hurt the dog pretty much and don't want to put him through that kind of pain. What suggestions do you have for getting rid of their hair?

Nair dosen't even work on people(at least not on me) It made my legs burn, so it probably wasn't a good idea to use it on your dog

Yeah, I did. I took video of our kitty, Houdini, yesterday. Then took clips from the video and turned it into an animated GIF.

Nair is the same as Oven Cleaner, and you put that on your Dog? ? ?
I really hope this is a sick joke. Putting a chemical like that on an animal’s sensitive skin is disgusting.
If your dog's hair is such a problem then maybe you should have thought of that before you decided to get one.
Yes I get irritated with crap like that.

I have to say, if you're not willing to properly groom your Spaniel, and you think the hair is too much of a problem, you should not have gotten a long-haired dog.
Honestly, I am appalled you put Nair on your dog. For one, it was made for humans, not animals. And for another, if you had READ THE INSTRUCTIONS you would see that even for humans, a negative reaction is likely. They recommend trying a little bit of Nair on a small area on your body, in case you have a bad reaction. Did you even test it on a small area on your dog before you jumped right in and put Nair over his/her entire body?
I would have to recommend you consider giving your dog up to the ASPCA or Humane Society. He's too much work for you and, frankly, the fact you put Nair on your dog frightens me.

If you want that "ultra-hip hairless dog look" get a Chinese Crested or a Mexican Hairless. Dogs (other than those) are supposed to have hair. It's one of their trademarks. 'Nuff said. If you're talking about the show clip (which, considering what you said, I doubt), a groomer is your only option if you don't wanna cut it yourself. And as for using human hair care products on your dog, that's pretty irresponsible. You're not even supposed to use human shampoo on your dog, much less products that are uncomfortable/painfull for humans. If it made his tongue swell up, that means it's poisonous. Congratulations. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, but seriously--do some research on dogs, for the dog's sake.
Gees, Roz. You went and changed it again ^_^
