I just resently got a 6 week old female peach and white Fancy hamster. And we are getting to know each other things are going pretty well. She is the the second ham I've ever own and I had the first when I was like 12 so I've been ham researching for about a month before I went out Hamster interviewing before picking her out. So I have a Critter trail house and Care Fresh as her bedding and added a lot of other accessories to her house so she can be active and well entertained and things seem to be working out great. My question is I got her Kaytee Fiesta brand gourmet hamster / gerbil food cause it looked the most interesting and the best but is there a better food out there I should be feeding her? Or anything else I should add to her diet? I give her baby carrots and slices of apple each morning. I've seen like yogert chips but don't really know what they do for hams other then being a snack. Any food suggestions would be very helpful I want to keep Eggo healthy and happy.
Thanks!

The hamster mix is fine, although I heard the cubed food is better so they can't pick out what they like and leave the rest, and it's good for their teeth too. I've been trying it but I broke mine up because they didn't seem to care for it. I just put in a few pieces with the mix. The carrots and other vegatables and fruits are good too, but I don't think they should have it everyday, but I'm not sure how much you are giving everyday either. I bought a few fruit and nut treats too. You could also check into some timothy hay or alfalfa. Also you could scamble an egg or boil it. It's good for protein, but I took out the yolk because it's so fatty. They like it better scambled though.

Well her food dish came free with her house but it's about half a cup or less I believe and I cang out her food and water every morning. I will try also the cube food with her as well. And I will also pick up some timothy hay or alfalfa for her as well I wasn't sure if it was safe or not after reading all the things about the Cedar or Pine chips I tried to stear clear of those. But my sister has a Guinea Pig and some alfalfa so I can get some from her to try as well. Thank you for your helpful tips.

I have never been Able to find the Cubed Food for Hamsters Anymore. At the Pet Store all they got is Pet mix, At the Grocery Store all they got is pet mix. It use to be sold everywhere down here in Florida now its gone all gone. And within the Pet Mix all they like are the Sunflower seeds, that might be like 1 of the best foods in the mix for them so they pick those out.

Humm you might try ordering it online I live in Illinois so there is a Farm and Fleet store near me and they sell animal feed also there is a Feed Store near my place too. But I think your best bet considering your location would to be to either you yourself or your parents order you some online.
Best of luck

I bought the cubed food from Wal-Mart. It's supposed to be better because it's good for their teeth, and because if they pick through the mix (which all of mine do...lol) then they won't get everything they need. But anyway, you can try Wal-mart. I also picked up a bag of timothy hay from there yesterday. They seem to like it, probably because it has a real strong smell to it. We don't have any large pet stores near where I live so I get a lot of their food and treats there.

Hi.. :wavey:
..it's good to add veggies to their diet 3 times a week..to avoid constipation ..here are some foods off the top of my head I feed my crew..small amounts I give to avoid them getting Diarrhea..it's also good to watch them also to make sure what u are feeding them agrees with them..if they get loose stools after feeding them one of the foods then hold back on feeding that to them it again..
Cucumbers..Green Beans...Kale...Carrots..Radicchio..Spinach...Water Cress..Zucchini..Cuncumber..Tofu..Scrambled eggs..no butter or oil or fried tho..Melon..cooked rice.. plain..Soft Cooked Spaghetti..Wheat Germ..Cooked Chicken or Turkey (Steamed or baked ..not fried) ..Low Fat Cottage Cheese
