When my hammy had babies I didn't know she was pregnant until she had them, and I had gotten her a new cage and picked her up to move her to her new home and oops there they were...ha ha. You can use a spoon to pick them up which I later did, but to start with I just took a box and cut the side off. I put some shavings in it and scooped them up in it and just set the box in the new cage. She may move them out of it or make her nest in the box. Also I was told not to touch the bedding either, so I put a little of the bedding from her old nest in it also. Good luck with your little ones. -Robin

I think it's best to move the mom first, so that she doesn't see you messing with them. I wouldn't touch her either though. Get everything in the new cage ready and throw in just a little of the old bedding if you can and it's not yucky or anything. If you can try to get her to go into something. Like when she comes out to eat or something and isn't with them. You can even scoop her up in a box. She may not like it but as soon as you get her and the babies back together and she knows they are safe she will chill. If they atre only a few days the box would probably do better. Just hold it flat on the cage floor and kinda scoot them in. If you have to you could push them in very gently with something else. I know it's scary because I freaked too when mine had babies. Also I think dwarfs will tolerate you doing this a little better than syrians. But yes if you can scoop her up and move her first, that would be better. When you get them in the box just set it in there. If she moves them you can take it out then. Oh! And you could give her a little scrambled egg for protien. When the babies start to eat you could give them a little too.
