MY PIT BULL SEEMS TO WANT TO EAT EVERYTHING SHE COMES IN CONTACT WITH DURING OUR WALK. GRANTED I KNOW THAT SHE IS A DOG AND THATS WHAT DOGS CAN DO, BUT SHE TRIES TO EAT ROCKS, GARBAGE....YOU NAME IT SHE TRIES. THIS IS FRUSTRATING....BECUASE WE GO OUT TO FOCUS ON THE CRATE TRAINING POTTY THING AND SHE SHOULD BE GOING POTTY AND/OR POOP. BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT SHE IS QUITE THE CHARACTER. SHE IS A SWEETHEART.

Is she actually eating these things? Or just chewing on them?

I think that, either way, you'll want to start teaching her the "Leave It" or "Ignore" command. You'll also want to teach her "Drop It," so that if she picks up something like a rock you can make her spit it out, rather than swallowing it and potentially causing complications. Oh, you'll also want to start getting her used to you reaching a hand into her mouth, so that you can pull out nasty things. Having her accustomed to you reaching into her mouth will also help when you take her to the vet and the vet opens her mouth and looks into it. It may also make brushing her teeth easier.

If she's merely chewing on these things, you may need more chew toys. I don't know how old she is, but she may be teething (losing baby teeth and getting in adult teeth.)

If she's actually eating these things, it may be that she feels she's lacking something from her diet. Make sure her diet contains everything she needs. Don't assume the food you're feeding her is complete just because it says "complete" on the front.

Does she do this in a playful sort of way? Maybe you need to bring a toy along when you walk her, to distact her from rocks and whatnot, and keep her entertained.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY ROZ........SHE SEEMS TO BE JUST CHEWING........NOT EATING THEM. SHE IS ONLY 8 MONTHS OLD SO I GUESS IT IS A POSSIBLITY SHE IS STILL TEETHING. WHEN WE GO ON WALKS SHE SEEMS TO BE MORE PLAYFUL THAN ANYTHING WHEN SHE TRYS TO CHEW ON WHAT SHE SEES DURING OUR WALK. I DO TELL HERE "NO" WHEN WE ARE ON A WALK AND SHE SEEMS TO TRY TO GRAB SOMETHING FROM THE GROUND AS WE ARE WALKING.

ALSO,,,,,,,,,IF YOU HAVE READ MY POST FROM PIT BULL POTTY TRAINING..........MY DOG DID NOT GO POOP TODAY AT ALL SINCE SHE DID IT IN HER CAGE SINCE LATE LST NIGHT. I GOT UP TO GO BATHROOM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHEN I NOTICED THAT SHE HAD GONE POOP IN HER CRATE. I WAS TO TIRED TO CLEAN IT UP...........SO I LEFT IT.........SHE ATE IT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,SO I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED THAT SHE DID NOT GO ALL DAY.

She hasn't pooped all day? Has she been taken outside and encouraged to poop? Check and double-check to make sure she hasn't gone all day. Most puppies will piddle and poo directly after eating. Assuming you're feeding her twice a day, she should have at least pooped twice, once after each meal.

She may be constipated, or have eaten something that's sort of...well...stuck.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND/OR CONCERN. I GUESS SHE DID NOT HAVE TO GO. SHE HAS GONE TWICE TODAY ALREADY :bouncy:

Aussie went through a period (in the two months I've had him) where he tried to mouth/eat/chew everything--dice, pens, anything he could find on the floor, you name it, he tried to get it in his mouth. Learning "Leave it" helped a lot--now he doesn't go for what he knows he's been admonished about in the past.

My Pits do the same thing. And once they get something in their mouth, they walk around all proud with it.Like "look what I found"

that sounds like my mom's dog. She will find something and prance around with it. She takes rawhide sticks and put them in her mouth like a cigar and just walk around with them.

My dog will sometimes have days where she doesn't want to poop either for the life of me. Or the ever frustrating she poops and pees outside... then she's walking around the house and has to go AGAIN without any warning... and it will be double the amount she pooped before. She does that from time to time, very frustrating.
