I'm interested in buying a sugar glider (or 2) and have begun doing a little bit of research on them and i think i'm ready to buy. Does anyone here recommend a particular breeder or place to get them? Our local pet stores don't have any available. Thanks!

heh, i would do a lot more than a little bit of research,,, more like at least a year. they are a lot of work & basically like a baby. you also need to know diseases to look for, how to provide a good living habibtat, good things to feed them, toxic things to them, how to handle them, there is A LOT of stuff that you wont even be prepared for so its just best to learn for a while. once you get the hang of it, then it gets easy. you must also keep in mind they arent all nice in the begining. there is bitting noises, & hiding. they also have VERY sharp claws. whent hey climb on you if you dont clip them they will tear you up.(yu need to know how to clip their nails & how to hold them while doing so.) the scratches will itch for a while why your getting use to them, cat scratches also will itch, but not nearly as much as a gliders will. like i said they will not be tame uless you work with them everyday, & sometimes it takes months or even years for them to be bonded to you. & once you stop playing with them they will also become more wild, the more they are away from you the more unattached they will be.
just a lot of things to consider! please do so!!!!!!! i know you think your ready, but you should really wait even longer. you will thank yourself, & SO will your gliders.(you must have two) they can die from depression, if they dont have one of their own kind. & if you stop hanging around them, that can cause then to become depressed too. a lot of things.. i would get some books, & keep looking on all the sites you can find, mine isnt done but it may help a bit, its under my signature. you also may want to try going to some glider based forums. ask your questions & they are always nice enough to help. (not that here isnt, just not a lot of people have gliders on here.)
good luck!!!

i would never buy a glider from a pet store either.. i dont think they are fed properly or taken care of like they should be. but a chinchilla, ehh depending on what it looks like i may get one from there.
stick with breeders, but any breeder i know basically interagates (sp) you before you buy one. so then they know you know about them enough. i also do that when i sell my gliders or chinchillas..

hey there, I have a glider that I bought as an adult that I was not prepared for at all. He desperately needs someone who is willing to invest the time to bond to him, but he is absolutely gorgeous. I am willing to sell him for 125 which is much less than I bought him for. If interested, please email me. I really want him to have a good home.

If you are still looking to adopt gliders and have done all of your research and are absolutely sure that you are ready for the challenge than I would suggest getting ahold of Mike at www.sandmanssugargliders.com. Mike is located right outside of Dallas, TX. I just purchased two baby girls 8 weeks and 9 weeks OOP from him on Friday. They are the sweetest babies I have ever seen. His babies are $150 each, but he let me have a pair for $250. Plus he gives you a free bonding pouch, 3 months supply of food, and an information packet with each glider. He also ships to anywhere in the U.S.

Yes, please NEVER buy from a pet store, they do not take god care of there Sugar Gliders. Well I havn't found when that has. And I have to agree with yigos flowers, please take alot of time on searching on a sugar glider, they are very delicate (sp?) animals. If you are going to get a sugar glider I would greatly think about getting 2 of them. Sugar gliders can actully die from lonlyness. But please think very care fully about this, and if you are going to get a sugar glider from a breed, please choose the right one. If the breeder wont let you look at his other sugar glider or see what they live in, RED FLAG, also if they are feeing there sugar gliders cat food or monkey biscuits, or anything other than Fresh fruits and Veggies, then that is another RED FLAG. If you have any more other questions, please email me at keeper4zoo@cableone.net

I have a 3-year old male sugar glider that I'd like to find a new home for. I got him from a friend that couldn't take him along when she moved. I didn't really know too much about gliders when I got him, so I wasn't really prepared. He's a sweetheart, and he doesn't have any health problems, but I just don't have the time to spend with him. I'd like to get $200.00 for him, but I really want to find him a good home, so I am willing to negotiate on the price. I'd prefer to find him a home in the St. Louis area so he doesn't have to travel too far.
