My little Lulu just loves to chew on things: shoelaces, electric cords, plastic bags, etc. All are either dangerous for her, or really annoying for me (who wants to re-lace their sneakers every three days? :wall: )

Went to all the petcare stores in my neighborhood, and got frustrated. For dogs, you can get lots of chewy toys and chewy treats, but cat toys are mostly bouncy/flouncy chase-'ems, and cat treats are little crunchy bits. Isn't there any such thing as the cat equivalent of a rawhide bone or a rubber chew-toy?

If you have a kitty who likes to chew, and you've found a toy or treat he/she enjoys, please post about it! (Fish-flavored kitty bubblegum would be ideal, but I know there ain't no such thing as that. . . ;) )

You ever try the kitty kong? It's like the rubber dog kong but kitty size. Kitty Kong (http://www.petcarecentral.com/ko-130.html)
I heard they were suppose to be good for cats that like to chew and they are safe for them as well.

Fish flavored bubblegum...ha! What an idea! :D

My cats all LOVE to chew on things. And you're right, there are sadly very few chew toys for kitties. So I make my own...

Since my cats adore shoe laces, and I've never had an incidence where one swallowed a shoe lace or anything like that, I encourage them to play with them...by giving them their own pairs. I take old shoe laces or new ones and tie them up in such a way that there are twists, bows, and knots for the kitties to chew on. They're light weight, so kitties can throw them around with ease. The way I fix the shoe laces up makes it hard to swallow or become dangerous, and also allows them to chew to their little heart's desire.

I'm not sure I could explain my exact method for fixing the shoelaces, but I could take some photos to show you exactly how I fix them up. I will just need to locate one of their shoelace toys. Argh! :P

My cats love to hide them all over the house, then make me go find them. Hehe.

I may need to buy a new pair of shoelaces to demonstrate... Not that the cats will mind, of course. :P

I had the "Kitty Kong", and my cats didn't think it was so great.
Though some things they did like where;
Knee High stockings, Milk lids, anything with catnip ;) the cat dancer toy and stuff.
Also there is a chew you can give to your cats, thought it's for dogs, it's rolled and dryed Salmon skin.

First off, I wouldn't let your cat chew on plastic bags or electical wires...plastic bags can cause suffocation even though cats do like them alot, and wires could become a fire hazard and a hazard to your cats health. As for toys, my cats really like just the little balls, sometimes they are sparkly or have bells or something on them. They also like the little mouse toys...they may be small, but they are lightweight so cats like to carry them around and bat at them. They also like the feathery things on sticks, they like to paw at them. For treats, any kind will do...there was a certain kind my cats love, but now I cant remember the name of it hehe. You just have to experiment to see what kind you cats like best. Hope I helped you some.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions!

My kitties do love all the same toys as yours do, Queen -- especially the Cat Dancer (the feather-on-a-wire toy). I just wish there were also some toys especially for cats who like to chew. And you're right, plastic bags and electric wires are way too dangerous.

Roz, your shoelace toy sounds fantastic: Lulu loves shoelaces, to the point where she'll actually dig into my gym bag to get at my sneakers and chew on the laces. (Gotta keep that bag zipped.) If you could post a picture of one of your creations, I'd really appreciate it. (For that matter, why don't you make up a bunch of them and see if you can get a pet-care company to distribute them for you? There's a REAL need for kitty chew toys. . . who knows, maybe your design will be the thing that makes you rich. )

I got some pictures taken. Will edit and upload them, perhaps make a little page explaining it all. It's not hard, just difficult for me to accurately describe. Definitely easier to show than tell. :)

Just because something is in the dog department doesnt mean a cat cant have it too. Potato bones or bacon bones by PopPup are really healthy and tasty and not dangerous. There are also these weaved rubber toys called Nobbly Wobbly that cats usually love even though they are for dogs. Also, try little tennis balls made for dogs. They are chewy and fuzzy (things they like) and also beef tendons (real beef chews for dogs) there are many people that have told me their cats LOVE them!
