Hello to one and all. First time poster from sunny Brisbane, Australia.
I have a 14 year old Chinchilla cat that for most of her poor wee life has a food allergy to we believed any and all beef products, but now it appears chicken too is a no-no. The vets (and there have been a few) have had all sorts of remedies and suggestions none of which worked, except "starve for 24 hours then feed scrambled egg for the next 24 hours". She seems to be ok with Hills Science Diet dry food (no beef etc!), but this diarrhoea is starting again.
She is healthy and very happy when she doesn't have this problem.
Could write chapters here, but if anyone has any suggestions we would be very grateful.
(she can go for a few months with no diarrhoea then it's all go for over a week). She is an indoor cat btw. We don't have endless supplies of money to continue more and more expensive tests and they only make her uncomfortable. What does one do?
Many thanks.

Further to my original post...sadly we had our baby put to sleep today. *They* believe it was a tumour on her spine...the diarrhoea was a symptom this time not the main problem.

Dear Michele,

Oh dear. I am so sorry to learn about your loss.

But i think your cat is no longer suffering.

Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes that's what we keep telling ourselves, she's no longer suffering, but it's, as you know, still hard. You keep imagining to go into the bedroom and see her in her basket. There is still her white fur on my dark coat. Her food still in the fridge. And the way she looked at me as I left her with the vet will forever remain as vividly clear. She knew.
These emotions make you wonder why you keep animals, but only for a moment. My *family* isn't complete without them.

Dear Michele,

I hope what I said here is still not too late. I shared your sorrow for loosing an adorable baby such as yours. I recently, experienced a loss when Ted (a x-breed between Persian & Tabby) died in misery. He was diagnosed with a chronic liver tumor metastasis to the lungs which made him dyspnoic. It has been a week now, but I still missed him. When times like this happen, I just wish if we their parents could understand their language when they fall sick. Have you ever feel why do they have to go through all these sufferings? Well, I do. However, I believe that we always have a special place in our babies heart and God loves those who care for their pet animals. I'm sure if you could hear what your baby "say", your baby could have thanked you for giving him/her a shelter. Take care Michele.
