Hi everyone, this is my first post in this section of the site, i introduced myself a few days ago.
I've had my male betta "CJ" for 3 weeks now and he seems fine except i'm concerned about a spot he has on his cheek. could it be white spot? so i'm treating him with this multi care stuff thats supposed to take care of ich, velvet disease and various fungus type things. is this the right thing for me to be doing?

also i was wonderring if bettas could take a dislike to people. because if i wave at him or point at him he usually does nothing but if my boyfriend does exactly the same thing he flares his fins out at him!

another thing i was wonderring about is that he seems happy and everything but when i change his water he seems to get mad at me and is unhappy for a few days as well as his colour seems to go off as well but then after a few days he's back to his normal self? i was wonderring perhaps whether i should leave the water longer before i put him in there after conditioning it?, its always from the same source (the tap which is bad but the conditioner is supposed to fix that right?) and i make sure its the same or very close to the temperature his old water was as well as tipping about 1/5 old water back with him.
any suggestions?
i'll be back tomorrow to check for replies :)
thanks a lot for listenning

Yes, bettas have feeling just as we do, and more than once has a betta diliked someone in our family. Their fish, they can have feelings towards others.
About the anger after water changes, I can't tell you a lot, but my best guess is that 1. He's angry about being moved 2. Water ph, bettas prefer strict water conditions, and you may want to use a ph kit to test the water in you area. If it's too high or too low, you may need ph up, or ph down. For more information, here's a great website: www.bettatalk.com This place is PACKed with information.
As for the spot, my family has never had a suffering betta. Go to www.bettatalk.com for more information on that also.

It may just be that he's stressed out. Water changes are very stressful on fish. You can buy a product that reduces stress and adds a protective coating to his skin/scales. It will help make water changes easier.

You can save a bit of trouble by just aging the water 24 hours or more.. the water will be the exact temp as what he's in and the chemicals are out.. just move him from one side to the other if you have a duplicate bowl (you know what I mean)
It makes changes quick and easy and alot less stressful on the fishies. Getting a conditioner like Roz said is also something to think about :)

thanks for the great advice everyone. well i changed his water today and this time its been ageing for a few days so i'll see how he is in the morning (i usually don't see any change in colour or behaviour until then)
i think the spot on his cheek is going with the medicine stuff too so thats good. i'll keep you informed :)

Well i think leaving the water for longer was the trick! Now i have a bottle and i fill it with the tap water, add the conditioner to de chemicalize it, give it a little shake and forget about it until i need to change his water. by then its at least a few days old and he seems much happier about the process.

I'm unsure about the spot which he still has on his cheek. its kinda hard to tell if its something or not because its right on his little stripe. but it looks different to the other side. i think i'll stop medicating him and see if theres any change, maybe i'm paranoid about nothing lol.
