Does anyone have pet insurance? Well I decided to invest in two policies for the dogs. The vet bills are becoming to much and for 50.00/MO the policy covers 4500/illness and/or injury/visit and 14000/policy year. This includes all vaccinations, dianostics, treatments, surgerys, prescr iptions. I love my dogs, but dont want to go broke either. I Have a pit that is white and she seems to have bad allergies and god knows what else will be wrong with her in the near future.

*I* have researched many companies and found that if I put the 50 a month into the savings account I will be better off.
See my dog *may* never need and if she doesn't then why pay it. But *if* she does need it I have saved it into the bank and it will be there.
Also I do not vaccinated except for 3 year rabies. She only sees the vet once a year minue any emergiencies. I also see a holistic / traditional vet which a limited few companies will reconize.
But it does work well for some people.

Actually yes she has. (only one dog)
However I no longer vaccinate.
There are new protocals for vaccinaes now. They are puppy/kitten series, rabies 4 months and booster at 1 year old. Then again every 3 years.
However I only continue with the rabies every 3 years and titer test for parvo and distemper the first 2 years.
I did vaccinate 2 years ago for the distmeper only becuase the titer was low and I was exposed to it in a shelter unkownlying. After researching it more tho the low titer may have only been due to the dog not being exposed or reacting to the distemper meaning she could have been fine. Since her titer was low for distemper the following year it just means that no more vaccinaes will make her immunitiy greater so I don't worry about it now.
Titers measure the levels of antibodies or protection the previous vaccines still have in the dog. Rabies being required by law I continue to have done since she gos on walks and such.

I was told that pet Insurance was popular in other counries (not North America). Is this true?
I've looked into it (talked to many Reps') and really didn't see many benifits, unless you get the larger packages, and you get the dentals done regularly, which I do not.
I do the 3 year vaccinations. I cannot afford to do a titer every year or two (not cheap around here), BUT since i have the 3 year vaccination schedual I take my dog for a check-up every 6 months (or as close to). Alot of Vet's do the 1 year vaccination NOT to get money from you, but to get people at actually bring there pets in to get a regular check up. Which I feel is very important, there are some things your Vet can see that you may not have even noticed, your Vet will pick up on any underlining illnesses.
