did not know were to turn so I came here. should I cut my gerbils nails myself.

i wouldnt recommend doing it yourself. Gerbils are very tiny and you don't want to cut the quick. Put a small brick or a piece of a brick in the cage and that might help cut down on their nails.

Its better for a vet to do it.

If they are so long that he cant eat and cant dig, you better take him to the vet. If they are just a little long, put a brick in to trim them down, as ratbrat said. I have bricks in two of my tanks to help trim my gerbils nails.
