Gerbil sand bath!!!!

I have read that gerbils like to have a sand bath ( a bowl filled with sand for them to roll around in ) Does anyone have one for their gerbils? is it safe or will it irritate their eyes? :daisy:

You would buy either Chinchilla sand or Dust for them to roll and clean themselves is.

I personally use the dust myself (never had any problems with it), they get it a couple times a month or so. I just place it in a small tin or bowl for them to play in. Lots fo Fun! :)

Chinchilla Sand/Dust is perfectly ok for gerbils. Some reccomend the sand better, saying the dust is to dusty for the gerbils. But as i said, i've never had any problems with it and have been using it for years.
With my old gerbils I would give them a dust bath everytime I cleaned the cage. So i'd put a dish of with the dust in the bathtub (with the drain closed.. lol) with a few toy's and let them run around and play in there (less mess.. lol). I don't ahve a bathtub where i can let them run free now, so i just place the dish in there cage, it get's alot of bedding in it that way though.

I wish more people agreed with my signature, there would be alot more happy pet then.

I let mine run around in the bath tub too. They love playing in there. I will buy some of either the chinchilla sand or the dust. Thanks for your help. :flower:
