My hamster's name is Yukie, she is 2-3yrs old. Last Tuesday evening during feeding time, I notice her right eye is protruding (the eye ball is half way out from the socket) and around the eye is red and some fur has been removed. I was shock and worried when I saw it, I don't understand because she was perfectly alright on Monday. She is alone in the cage and there isn't any fight or injuries could caused this.

Today I took her to the vet and was given some antibiotic and some eye wash to clean her eye. The Dr. can't explain as to what causes this to happen. I was told that her eye might eventually drop out or I might want to consider to have it removed. I hope anyone out there could advise me whether if it's alright for a dwarf hamster to have a surgery and should I have it remove? I'm lost and very sad, please help. Does anyone out there has similiar hamster problem?

p/s: Sorry if my description disgust anyone, I have to be specific so you know my problem and understand how I feel. Thank you.

If the vet suggests the surgery, than it should be ok for your hamster to live its life with one eye.

I never took my hamster to the vet. Can't afford a check up, it would've cost me $60. And I'm pretty sure I can't afford to get surgery for it either.
