My brother got a newt from petsmart and it wouldn't eat the food that an employee gave us.We checked online and it said to give them chopped -but moving- earthworms. The newt didn't eat this either. He died in three days. Did he have a disease? We are going back and getting two more today! Please reply so he doesn't die!! :(
Thanks ;) Lindsay

im really soory your newt passed away.
i dont know a lot on the subject, but at college we had a salamnder that was hard to feed, we had to literally hold the feed with tweezers and tickle his mouth to get it open and then he would take the food, this may help you feed your new ones.

I read up on them and it said online that if your newt doesnt eat then it probably has a disease and you should try to feed it worms but it didnt eat that so I think it had a disease. The pet store people had no I dea what they were doing so when we went back we found an employee who knew what they were doing. The employee said they would be in stock in a bout 5 days.

Oh I used to work at a petstore and have owned several newts. In my opinion your newt went into shock in a new enviroment. The water may hve been a different (even if your temp was optimal t could still differ from petshops) tempature. Newts are very very fragile creatures with a hard to please circulatory system. I suggest you do your best to mimic the stup a the pet store so your new one is comfortable. Also remember NEVER to put sharp or rough rocks/objects in the cage. The skin of a newt is very soft tissue and if they rub against something like that the could die.

Keep us updated on the well being of your new newt. Good luck and please realize that you are purchasing a pet that requires more work than most.

PS-ever keep newts outside...Racoons prey on them

Hi, thats not always the case. I bought my newt & they told me to give him "only" earthworms. He wouldn''t eat them so i looked up some info & I decided to try Freeze Dried Bloodworms he seemed to take a very nice liking to those lol. You can also try ReptoMin Baby- which is floating food sticks, & krill.Bur most seem to like Bloodworms so. Hes still living today and healthier then ever :)

mine like frozen krill the best but also eat meal worms, small crickets, pellets, and occasionally frozen blood worms(but they don't like them that much). oh and if yours gets big enough you can give them feeder fish.

If you were giving it pellets, thats why it didnt live. Those pellets are garbage, feed your newt bloodworms, frozen or unfrozen, whichever.

when your newt died what happened??? did it float to the top of the water on its back??? of did it just float and not move???
