well heres the deal...i have 2 crittertrail X's...one for each of my syrian hamsters. well both of them stay in the wheel constantly and bring shavings and food up there. they never come down when i'm there, so i barely ever get to hold them anymore. is this to get away from me? do they not like me? :( what did i do wrong? well my other problem is the cage is a little small...and not that interesting, so maybe theyre bored? this is what the cage looks like...if it works.

this web site shows what it looks like. so maybe i should add toys or other things? i really dont have room to expand. so any tips on anything i can do with either of my problems? thanks!

Maybe they just want to sleep in a place that feels secure to them? 2 of my hamsters would always burrow under there bedding and pull the sock over it, so they were covered all around in a nice secure area. The hamster I have now used to sleep underneath the wheel, because the wheel almost touched the bedding in her cage, but I raised it a bit so there was more room down there. Now she sleeps in her "petting zone". I think the Crittertrail X has one of those.
So no, I don't think it's to get away from you. They probably just want a small place to sleep where they feel safe. I too think the cage is a little too small, and there isn't really a spot where you could put any toys. You could buy them new cages, or buy another cage that is about the same size as your current one, and connect them. Whatever you do, I'm sure it won't be cheap. ;)

I have a crittertrail X too. my dwarf hamsters share it and they r male and female. my hamsters go under the slide and in the wheel. they do the same thing. i think they just want a place to rest.

I had [have} a Crittertrail X, and my hamster would go up in the wheel, and pee, and it'd get all over the top of the cage, and then she'd hide at the base of the slide, so I couldn't ever reach her, so I took out the slide and wheel completely, taped up the hole, and bought a hook on wheel, which freed up a good amount of room.
BUT, she took shavings, and peed all the time in that wheel, so I took that off, and put in on of those wheels that just attach in the cage, so she has nowhere to hide.

It's ok I have one hamster in a huge cage. It is the critter trail X connected to the crittertrail mini and the critter trail 2 and my hamster also likes to stay in the wheel of the critter trail X. I have to take the whole wheel apart to get to him. But it is really obnoxious when he bring all his food up there and starts running, my parents don't like that at midnight so I have to put him in a separate cage and move him to a different room to sleep.

YOur hamster is trying to escape from you, the brain structures are far more naturely advanced to focus on something as silly as ignoring a human. More than likely your hamster is just up because he "feels" like it. Whatever appeals to him/her is what they'll most likely do. If you are having trouble with the type of caging then I would suggest switching them over to a sterilite bin and customizing to your or or hamster's preferences.
By the way sterilite bins are far more cheaper, bigger and customizable. I actually have one of my dwarf hamsters in a bin and she loves the space.

I had a hamster, But Hammy died in June...so i only had him 6 months..but then again....he DID look pretty old when I got him.... any way....I'm not so sure about this but I no that u shood never take all the hiding places away...and shood actually put in MORE hiding places! **hint**MissDion**hint** any way...that happened alot with Hammy...he used to go the the wheel and NEVER get down! Or, he would go half way up the tube going to the petting thing and stay in the tube! ...and f.y.i . to them...it DOESN'T glow-in-the-dark.....it looks like they're saying it does...
hope that helped....
Bye!

Mine did that all I did is take out the slide and the wheel the cage should have came with a yellow plug, put that where the wheel was and buy a different wheel, since there will be more room if the slide is gone! works great for me and she loves it cause then she uses the top area instead of the wheel! then if the other wheel sqweaks (ha ha) put vegetable oil on a q-tip and rub it around the hinges and it won't squeak (ha ha) for another month!

My syrian knows how to open the cage door, take off the wheel and such. She is always escaping. I have solved that problem, though!

my hamster also you to pee in the wheel on the top of the cage. What i did was i took it off and put a clip on wheel in her cage for a few weeks.she then established a different peeing place and now i have the wheel back on top of the cage, however i took the slide out and let her climb up to the wheel by the bars.
