HELP: Betta Scales Peeling????

HI, i just baught a new betta and recently i've noticed his scales seem to be peeling, kinda like a human with dead skin flaking off. Is this ok? is it serious and can i help my betta?

In the future, take a good look at the betta before buying it. Hold it up to the light, rotate the cup he's in, and spend as much time as you need to. Once you've decided, get his tank ready with a betta water neutralizer..it's specially made for him. Then get a high quality food, and some betta-fix. Betta-fix will help coat his fins to keep him healthy, fix any present problems, and help with the stress. Dont give up! Try it again.

My betta did the same thing before he died, but he was around 2 years old. He just kinda layed at the bottom and then you could could his scales like sticking straight up. He stayed like that for a couple days, I tried to save him, but he passed away.
