Pet Store Problem.... help

I'm planning to get some new hamsters today, so I contacted some pet stores. Yet every store had blackbears, which i love, but i want some variety. I also found there were no breeders in the area at all. I am underage, i cant drive, and theres no way my mom will go that far for pets. Here was the main problem: the last store i called said "We have a whole bunch." This was a petsmart and i know the store was too big for them to answer immediately, and the guy said it right away. the petsmarts in my area are pretty good (my cream was bought from a petsmart and is incredibly healthy). How do i know if these guys are ripping me off? Also, i am very impatient, so i want them right away! im not sure if i can wait till next week.

By ripping you off, do you mean moneywise, or by how much variety they have?

If you mean money, most hamsters I've seen are somewhere around $5, maybe a little higher, sometimes going up to $10. If they have "black bears" that are close to $20, then you are being ripped off. Black bears are just black colored syrians, and pet stores usually have them priced high. I would stay in the $5-10 range when looking for a hamster.

If you mean variety, all I can say is go and look. If you don't find what you want, then go back another time. I know, I am a very impatient person too, and also having to rely on my parents (only 13) I know it's hard. But, good things come to those who wait. ;)

I would say you'd have to trust the word of the salesperson. If that turns out to be false, you need to complain to the management. However, every Petsmart I've been to usually has a good selection of short-hairs, long-hairs, Campbells, black bears, and once in a while, calico or tortoiseshells.

Well i followed you guys' advice and found out my hunch was wrong, thankfully. The hamsters there are fairly cheap and healthy. :D :D :D just if you're wondering i got a cinnamon (looks remarkably like a roborvoski) and a blackbear with an white underside shaped like a heart. their names are magic :wizard: and spook :eek: . anyways thank you guys so much, you have never let me down so far!
