I know I've only had them for two days, and i should not play with them right away, but whenever i try to offer them some food or anything, they just stare at my hand for 2 seconds and run off on their wheels, while my poor hand is sitting there for 10 mins waiting for something to happen. They already have their bed made up, their bathroom, their stashed food, and still they refuse to make any contact with me whatsoever. What am i doing wrong?

I know how you feel. I just got a dwarf hammie and he didnt even notice me. But the truth is some hammies just dont respond to putting ur hand in the cage. While its true some do feed from it and some even climb in. Some (like my Elvis) just are feelin it. But Elvis still lets me hold him. heres wat I do..I take everything out of his cage cept his wheel ( the only other things are his food bowl and tunnel and he'll usually climb into the wheel and i pick it up while hes in it and he'll climb into my hand...from there u should prolly talk to him and stuff (calmly of course)

You're hamster's not ignoring, and sticking your hand in the cage for 10 minutes instead of trying to pet him or something was probably why you felt that.

Getting your hamster from a breeder or at a petstore wouldn't make a difference in this sitaution and it really just depends on their attitude.

put a old t-shirt in the cage and they will get used to your scent not by having your hand in the cage for 10 mitunes!

He's probably not used to you. From my past experience,no offense, all 4 of my hamsters ignored me constantly. They couldn't care less about me.I think its because now I look back and compare them to my rat I think that no way were they ever close to me.My rat is the most cuddliest thing and most affectionat creature I have ever known.Hamsters are crazy and cute, but my hamster days are over(do to lack of interest) and I'm staying on rats.

Have the T-shirt over the cage so the hamster would get used to your scent if that doesn't work put an old raggy Stuffed Animal that they would want to use
