My hamster used to hang on the wire shelves in his cage, and then drop. I was so worried he would get hurt, but he never did. I'm guessing there is a possibilty of them landing a certain way that might hurt them, but my hamster now also does this and I've never seen her get hurt.

Lemme tell you my old hamster's story. Her name was Peachy and this happened is South Carolina.
One Saturday I left to got to camp at some Plantation .I don't know what happened, but for some reason her cage was open, and she escaped.I had taught her how to climb upstairs(big mistake) so she did that. She somehow got on top of a chair in front of window that was open and only the screen was covering. She chewed through it,supposedly jumped out the window. That was a 15 foot fall, but we didn't find her body anywhere on our property. She was smart, too smart. We had woods in our back yard so I guess she scampered off there or something.
But during that summer, something amazing happened.
I was off in Ohio to visit family, and my beloved older cousin,Sophie, which had to be over 3 or 5 miles away(maybe more) called and said she's found a hamster that looked like peachy, with blue eyes.My aunt didn't want her in the house so she made Sophie put in a cardboard box outside. She chewed though it.
Was it just a coincedence.Perhaps someone lost a white banded,peach-colored,blue
eyed syrian hamster?I don't think so.If that really was Peachy, and I had proof that it was her,I would definitley put her in the record book.

Seperate them at once. i had two syrians in one cage and luckily seperated them before anything like that happened(read 2 syrians 1 cage). They are solitary animals. If you have to buy a 15 gallon rubbermaid container for the time being but whatever you do dont keep them together
