A stray cat wandered into my yard 3 days ago and has been acting fine other than a bit hungry. Today, all day she has done something I have never personally saw a cat do. She is meowing mournfully and dragging her body across the floor while arching her behind into the air as high as she can. I first thought gas or constipation, but it is now past midnight and she has used the litter box and still has a very healthy appetite. I can tell she is in great discomfort as she cannot lie still more than a few moments at a time. She has no signs of illness other than this strange behavior. She acts as though she is trying to force something from the rectal area. I tried to call several vets today, but they were closed due to Memorial Day. I hate to see this cat in misery........does anyone have ANY ideas of what is wrong or how I can comfort her. Thanking all in advance.

Well, there are a lot of people here, but no one seemed to have any ideas. The poor cat died shortly after 5:16 this morning. But, I guess that was mean't to be.

I just read your post and I'm so sorry this happened. At least now it's at peace and in no pain. You meant well and did the best you could.

I'm sorry to hear that the cat died. You did a good thing taking it in, and trying to help it.

I don't even know what could have been wrong.

Billie Bird & Nightmare,

Thank you both. I called the vet anyway today and he told me there could have been a number of things. He said it could have been a tumor, something caused by being attacked by another animal, a possible miscarriage, or several other things. He did say that continuing to have a healthy appetitite was odd no matter what. I told him we buried the cat for the sake of the kids. He asked if there had been any bleeding or discharge from the cat and there wasn't. So, I will never know for sure what was wrong, but I hope somehow that our being good to her on the last at least allowed her some comfort.
Thank you both again.

Purrs,
Serisa

Oh my goodness! My sincere apologises for reading this message so late.
I am very very sorry for being so late to reply you. http://petshub.com/ubb/frown.gif

I am very sure that during those 3 days, the cat must have been feeling at home and at ease. It must be very grateful to you for caring for her.

My heart goes with you for losing the cat.

I have been to your site and you have a cat Dreamer. I am very impressed that she came back to you after so many years. How is she now?

Take care.
