I found these 2 degus in my yard running loose. I think they were let go. quite people friendly. seem very helthy.
I know nothing about them and I can't keep them. I'm pretty sure the one is prego. I don't know what to do.
I called the HS and they wanted me to pay them to take them!! they aren't mine.
no one wants them, even the petstores wont take them.
I'm willing to drive to get them part way to find them good homes... hellllp I have no idea what to do with them

Sorry i cannot help, since i'm on the other side of the country. But some things you should know about Degus, they are Diabetic (so to speak) and cannot eat fruits or anything with sugar in them. So while you have them make sure not to feed them anything with sugar.
can you put an add in the papers? Also call local Vet's and tell them about the situation, hopefully they can either take them and find a home for them, or at least keep and eye out for you for a home (or maybe they got loose, and soemone looking for them?).
I can't believe the HS would not take them!@ what a bunch of (add foul word here). They have a job to do, so they should do it!
Are you sure you can't keep them? I've always wanted two, my friend had a pair, they are so much fun.
Anyways, Good luck in your finding them a home!

Thanx for the info.
I've been doing alot of reading on them. quite interesting little guys.
I REALLLY can't keep them. I have rat's and no extra cages. I had them in a hampster cage for a few days. but now I have them in a larger cage. but they are chewing a hole in it.
I'll try an ad in the paper. but the female is for sure prego, she's VERY big.
I just found a neat site about them, I was able to tell male and female.
I don't think they just got loose. but it's possable I'll post some ad's up around too just to see what happens.
I'm alittle scared of them, LOL I had a gerbil as a child and it would bite me alot they remind me of BIG gerbils.
I haven't given them any fruit I have them on lab blocks, I hope thats okay.

Hey! I'm in Toronto, and I might be able to help you.... I have experience in breeding small animals, and I know of a pet store that would most likely take them once the babies have been born. I started breeding hamsters for them a few years ago. I'll call them tomorrow morning, (kuz it's 10.48pm right now), and I'll let you know how it goes.
