I have a very affectionate Angora rabbit. My bunny grinds his teeth whenever he is being cuddled, similar to that of a cat purring. This is the only conclusion I have been able to reach. Is this common, or is it just another one of my bunny's wonderful quirks?

I have a dutch rabbit and when I pet her cheeks she always grinds her teeth. I think when I pet her cheeks it helps her remove food from her molars because she always drinks some water after a long session of getting her cheeks rubbed. I would say your bun is normal. Take care. Blister

i have been doing a lot of research since spontaneously adopting my little 3 month old bun. Apparently the grinding is exactly like a cats purr. They do it to show gratitude or affection toward you. My little boy does the same from time to time. He also gives little love nobbles to get my attention to pet him or he'll butt me with his nose.

It's sweet, isn't it? My little girl will now "tooth purr" sometimes at the sound of my voice - if she's in a good mood. She definitely likes head and cheek rubs, too. :)

have you ever tried scratching your bun's nose? mine loves it and will nearly fall asleep! I guess its a common thing. I have a friend whose rabbits love it also. Give it a try!

You can create bunny heaven right here on earth if you commence a good session of long, languid pets. You'll know you achieved nirvana if the rabbit starts gnashing its teeth together very quietly. This is a "purr" that signals supreme happiness.

If I hold Spaz or Pumpkin, I have to make sure to hold them until they grind their teeth, otherwise they will thump at me when I put them down...little boogars. :)

With all due respect, I think anyone who has ever moderated a large forum will tell you that this practice is costly and an incredible waste of bandwidth (for a forum the users don't pay for like this one, especially). One forum I visit is very strict about that. I guess this one isn't, but I try to recycle as a measure of pragmatism and respect. :)
