Hello everyone,
About a week ago I found these two little Degu in my backyard, they are quite friendly, took me awhile to catch the one of them, but I'm not able to keep them at all, I don't know alot about them, they seem quite healthy over all, the Female is Pregent, so I may keep her till the babies are born so she isn't any more stressed then she has been. but from what I've been reading I really don't have a proper cage set up. it's large but it has a plastic bottom they have already chewed through one of my cages.
I have Rats I've been doing alot of moving around to try and accomated them, but I really need a good home for them.

I really need help finding them a home or a resuce of some kind, if I could find a small animal resuce in Ontario, (I'm in Kingston) I would give them both over, I just don't want to see them being used as breeding animals I think they have been trough enough in their little lives, they need to be pets only.

:disappoin please help me find them a good degu friendly home.

I'm in Toronto. Check the THS site, www. t o r o n t o h u m a n e s o c i e t y .com, click to the adoption pages for small animals, then go below to click on "maximize search" or something like that. There should be a listing there for animal shelters, I believe there is one in Ottawa.

Good luck with your degus. I have two females, and they are lovely pets. Maybe you will consider keeping them, as I know they adopt poorly as no one knows what they are.

I'm in Kingston not Ottawa, I called the HS and they said they wont take them, unless I pay them??

2 days ago the female had 8 babys! So now insted of 2 degus I now have 10 Degus to find homes for.

These poor things I feel so badly for them, but I have 6 Rats and no room for the Degu's as it is They have chewed through one of my Large cages and almost chewed through another.

I can't afford to buy another cage just for them.
My Rats have been moved around to there's cages so I could make room for the Degus...

I'm at a loss on what to do, I thought I was helping these poor things but I'm finding myself way in over my head with no one to help me.

I do feel bad who ever let them go is a Jerk but I also am not able to care for them the way they chew through 200.00 cages...

I'll keep looking I really hope to find somthing for them soon though... Theres just no way for me to keep them.

Sorry, I don't know where I got Ottawa from. You have 10 now. Have you separated the male? The female may get pregnant again if not.

I'm sorry to hear that you can't keep them. I know they chew like crazy, I have my females in a large aquarium with a metal mesh add-on on top. I have wood for them to chew inside, and they go at it like crazy, as well as sometimes their plastic wheel.

Can you put an ad in the paper or something? I wish I could help you out more, but I can't take anymore, my small apartment is already over run with pets. Try one of those strictly classifieds newspapers like the Pennysaver. Make sure to screen people to make sure they will be good to your degus. Good luck.

PS: the person who let those degus out in the wild was a jerk. Too many people see animals as 'disposable'. And too many people are simply just jerks.

Hi, this seems like perfect timing . . . maybe! I am looking to adopt two degus and wanted to get them at a young age in order to socialize them better! I'm in Ottawa, but can most likely make the trip to Kingston to pick them up from you.

I know this doesn't solve your problem, but maybe it helps?

The only thing is, I want two of the same sex (do not want a repeat of your situation!) - are you able to determine their sex?

I will also call the Humane Society here in Ottawa - if they will take them no charge, perhaps I can bring them all back here for you.
