Just got a new Syrian hamster and have named him 'Hammy' but everyone is making fun and seems to think the name is un-original. Any ideas for a more original name? He's ginger with a white tummy and very sweet.

Da One > Seeing your replies to this and many other posts on these forums leads me to believe one thing.... attitude problem. I thought owning a hamster (and everything that goes with it) was meant to be fun... I think you got bit once too often ;) Anyway, no further comment to you.

hermiesareneat > Thanks for your useful comment. It was nice to get a kind reply. :)

Wow... such political names... whatever happened to "Creamsicle" or "pumpkin" *lol*

Anyway I have the same problem but with a mouse I recently aquired.. right now I'm calling her Red... but I want to give her a real name.. but names to me always have to reflect something in the animals personality.. and the right one hasn't found me yet..

Good Luck on your name hunt.. hopefully we will both find the name we are looking for!!

My Dwarf is Acorn, and my Syrian is Peanut...

maybe Sesame, Cashew, Almond... maybe Pistachio

*lol* Or maybe I'm just "nutty"

If you want try to think of names of chracters from books thing of one thats your favorite and if he looks like what the chracter is described why not name him that?

Thanks for your help everyone but I'm sticking with the name 'Hammy'. He seems to like it and he's too cute (see the pic of him by my name) to change it :D

The reason I came up with Jack for my parrakeet because he did very humorous things when he was little so thats why I name him Jack and other reasons is that I named him after my cousin that lives in winsconsin

I have a strange fascination with names that end with y. Cheezy(yes, someone did make fun of my hamster) Peachy, Nelly, and Shelly. Plus I had a ton of other pets that had names ending in y or ie, such as Dewey, Sunny, Slappy, Sammy, Ronnie, Goldie... I could go on and on.
