A sad story

I was at Petsmart today and saw this GORGEOUS male gerbil huddling in the corner of his enclosure. He was white-ish with black eyes and black on his nose (a polar fox..?). The poor thing was being kept in a tiny glass container with chunks of what looked like bark for bedding. His plastic igloo was turned upside down and chewed to bits; the wheel they'd provided was one of the wire ones for hamsters. And he was all alone. :(
I really want to rescue him, but my mom is not very sympathetic. One other gerbil she might accept, but she wouldn't let me get two more. I already have two pairs of gerbils and I've heard it's a bad idea to introduce another gerbil if they already have an established family group; otherwise I would introduce him to one of the other clans. Any help would be appreciated...

He was either trying to go to sleep or just waking up. While I went to meet my dad he had gotten up, but when I came back he ran into his little corner again.

Gerbilgirl... Sadly, I'm the same as you and I want to rescue every lonely little gerbil that I see in a pet store. :( It's so awful to see them in there, not being taken care of.

But I have to tell myself that if I buy that 1 lonely little gerbil, I'm helping to support a pet store that doesn't properly care for it's animals and thus, will cause even more lonely, poorly taken care of animals to be in there.

I know how hard it is to resist. I have 11 gerbils already and have been brought to tears over gerbils not being cared for properly, but I have to resist supporting these stores. the best thing you can do is talk to an employee/associate/manager... anyone who will listen and clue them in on gerbil care. I know it's hard to walk away, believe I know. But like I said.... we can't support these awful pet tsores.

Even if the petstore sounds like there doing a good job because of those stupid commericals that people belive the animals our sometimes and sometimes not taken care of because most of the employes or Workers our scared of some of the animals

when I gotten to a petco in my area The dwarfs kept biting cause they were scared and were just protecting themselfs one of those dwarfs was my pet avirl and the other dwarf that was living with her was her sister I mean they shouldn't have them together even if they keep fighting because one excuse was probely "Oh but we have no other cages to put them in" The Petstores I come to do a good job with there animals but they hardly even take care of those big hermit crabs and if you are wanting to get a hermit crab try getting them at your mall in a tiny shop called grab a crab and they seem to be doing a good job at raising them :).

Revenge: I told my mother about the gerbil's living conditions. She said that it mattered to her that it mattered to me...but she isn't concerned enough to do something about it. I quote: "We're not going to bring home every sad animal in the world! Forget it."
Brandyjo: I'm going to see if I can go back to Petsmart in the next few days and talk to the employees about how they treat their gerbils. I just hope they'll listen to a 14-year-old.
