Russian Tortoise Won't Eat!?!?!

I just recently aquired a tortoise from the local pet store. Since I've brought it home I've done my research to make sure it's in good health. I've given it what the pet store and tortoise websites instructed me to feed it. Yet, It still won't eat. Any Ideas?

What exactly are you feeding it Rachael? Is it warm enough? does it have the correct setup for a russian? How old is it? is it captive bred or wild caught? All of these factors are important. Please write in again

I'm not quite sure if it was breed or wild caught. I just got him from the pet store. I'm feeding him romain letuce and vitamen pellets. I have a heat rock in his cage just to keep the temperature up because my house is cold. He seems to be nibling alittle now.... but no where near what he should be consuming.

Hot rocks are not a good idea for tortoises. You need a 60watt spot lamp placed above his living quarters so that he can warm up to a temperature of 30degrees. Until he reaches this temperature he will not feel like eating. It's called thermoregulating. You should offer him dandelions, clover, plantain and sowthistle. If you do not have any wild grown food, you can offer him collards, watercress, romain lettuce and a little grated carrot. Sprinkle this with calcium daily or spray with reptavite. Don't offer dried pellets, fruit or iceberg lettuce. Go to the following websites for expert advice. There is always someone there to help you.
