Hello There.
I would like to know if it is possible to adopt a young kitten. As young as possible.
A want a pet for life......

You can adopt kittens after they are 6 weeks old, but it is much better for the kitten and it's mother if you can wait until they are 8 weeks.

I have adopted orphaned kittens as early as 4 weeks old, but they have alot of emotional problems, and often don't stay healthy.

Kittens make wonderful pets. I have a cat that is 4 years old and I have had her since she was about 3 months old. That is when I could finally touch her. I hate the thought of anything happening to her. I love her like she is a kid.

If you want to adopt a kitten at such an early age you will find that the kitten has not learnt basic things like socalisation from it's mother and other siblings. Now having said that, I have adopted four kittens that had been rescued and two from as young as three hours old. They needed a tremendous amount of care and time spent feeding them, toileting them and a lot of money at the vets! As I write I have Sylvia here with me in my arms telling me that she was an exceptional baby!

I would suggest that you join an unweaned kitten rescue group in your area and become a foster mom. You will learn so much and you can keep the kitten or kittens that you rescue, or else, keep rescuing them. Ant said it wonderfully. If you would like to dedicate a LOT of care and a LOT of time to a young kitten, I would suggest going to a Human Society. They usually have a selection of abandoned kittens from as litle as 4 weeks old.
