Briton videotapes giant UFO outside her home

Nasa experts want to see the image of the 5-km wide giant disc with flashing lights and believe it is similar to that captured during a space flight

By Alfred Lee
STRAITS TIMES EUROPE BUREAU

LONDON - A British housewife has captured amazing footage on her camcorder of a gigantic Unidentified Flying Object which hovered near her home for six minutes.

Mrs Sharon Rowlands, 41, estimates that the UFO was an astonishing 4.8 km wide.

The giant disc was pink and white in colour, with yellow, orange and blue lights. It had a dark centre and beamed pulses of intense light.

It hovered about 3.2 km from her home in the tiny village of Bonsall, Derbyshire, 224 km from London for two minutes, before blasting away into the night sky at fantastic speed.

Britain's Meteorological Office has confirmed that there were no freak weather conditions in the area at the time that could explain the mysterious sighting.

Experts at Nasa, the American space agency, have asked to see the video footage as a matter of urgency.

They will use top-secret imaging equipment and computers to try to figure out what the UFO is.

They believe it is the same sort of image captured on one of their own cameras during a space shuttle mission.

But despite long analysis and photo-enhancement using equipment worth millions of dollars, the image has never been explained.

Mrs Rowlands said: 'I was a complete and utter disbeliever in flying saucers and UFOs, but what I saw has made me think again.

'I was with my husband Hayden one night when I noticed an intense light outside.

'I looked outside and saw this huge disc hovering in the sky. I rushed to get my camcorder, ran outside - and started filming.

'Through the camera lens, it looked like it was going to hit me. It looked like nothing I have ever seen before.'

The video footage is now in the vaults of California-based television firm, Kiviat Productions.

They heard about the film and sent representatives to see and study it.

They then decided to buy it for £20,000 (S$51,200) from Mrs Rowlands and will release it for worldwide screening later this year.

But before that, they will show it to Nasa.

The filming of the 'flying saucer' coincides with sightings of UFOs by other residents in the area.

Mr Paul Hannan, 37, who lives in the nearby village of Bakewell saw a dome-shaped craft 'dancing in the sky'.

Two weeks later, a man living in Wirksworth, a 10-minute drive away, saw a similar object in the sky.

Call me gullable, but if that many people saw it, Then it was definately something. And since it was "hovering" and nobodies know exactly what it is, it is truly an "Unidentified Flying Object."

I won't discount the possibility it could have come from outer space, But I wouldn't make any kind of bets on it either.

Love your new Pic of Brownie. You are getting creative, I like that. I just made a smilie from my pic of bandit. Will get it on my site asap.

Nightmare.

Brown, aren't you the one that said you breed horses. It seems it had to be you or Garfield, any way, since you make me feel so good about my art, I did what seems the easiest for me. I did you a horse. I want to do Brownie, but I have to get my scanner fixed first. It might be easier on paper.

Have a Great Day.

PS: I forgot to mention it isn't supposed to be realistic. I called it Happy Horse.

Happy Horse looks really real!
You mean the horse is easiest for you?? http://petshub.com/ubb/eek.gif I can't even do the little eyes. http://petshub.com/ubb/tongue.gif

You are surely talented at it.

I don't breed horses. http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif

Most people definitely think I'm a wacko. Hey, I live by myself with an assortment of rescued animals (a box turtle, a rabbit, and two guinea pigs that turned into 7 last night), and a bunch of horses, some of those being rescue animals as well. That makes a person suspect to a lot of the population to begin with.

On top of that, I walk around in t-shirts with the Loch Ness Monster on, or the one that says "UFO's are real -- The Air Force Doesn't Exist".

Having said that, sure, UFO's exist, I see 'em every day....That's Unidentified Flying Object. It might be a duck overhead...maybe it's a loon...once I thought I had spotted a alien craft for sure, but it turned out to be the Goodyear Blimp cruising a back road on the way to a sports event (I was glad the horses in the trailer couldn't see it! I didn't need the trailer to abruptly start hopping around if they freaked out).

I HEARD a UFO one time, years ago, when I was a kid. I didn't see it, but one of our neighbors down the road saw it, I just heard the sound it made and wondered what in the heck that was.

My most interesting UFO related story relates to the documented report by Joe Simonton, of Eagle River, WI, who had a close encounter, third kind, with aliens, who gave him some strange panckes they were cooking. They were on display in a grocery store in same town where my mom took me to see them when I was about 11-12 years old. I was rather intrigued by the whole idea, it opened up vistas of thought for me, but at the same time, I said to my mom;

"Gee, those look a WHOLE lot like the ones that you make!!" (they were burnt)

LOL you are so funny.

I have never seen a UFO but i believe that in this vast universe, there is a possibility that we are not alone. There have been many reports about people who saw UFO. Who is in the position to say that all are fake or untrue?

I think that there are 3 possibilities. Please add to them if you have any others.

- Some local or foreign military testing their technologically advanced spy plane. I have seen a documentary showing the US and Russia versions of their sacuer shaped air craft that hovers. Look excatly like UFO.

- UFO is real and the government has been covering it up. The reason being that it will cause mass hysteria if it is revealed. Or the government who knows is covering it up hoping for the chance to acquire technology knowledge advantage over other governemnts who don't know. Also, if aliens are technologically capable to reach us and we are still not able to, then we may be in serious trouble if there is a conflict.

- The witness of UFO fake it for publicity. Maybe its lunacy, hallucination or optical illusions. But given the number of UFO sightings, i don't think all the case are fake.

I believe that we are not only one in this vast universe. We still have planets and stars which we can name but are not able to reach them.

I heard something interesting listening to the BBC tonight. Apparently, Mars, Earth, and the Sun are all in a line to each other at the moment. This happens every two years or so, but this time around, Mars is closer to Earth than at most other times. Not to fear a crash or anything of the sort, but they had a man they were talking to who is both an astrophysicist AND a UFOlogist.

He said that in the past, configurations such as this have yielded the highest number of reported extraterrestrial sightings. About 50% get explained, 10% don't have enough information on them to catagorize, and so on, but a full 20% are of the "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?" type.

One he was citing was seen by 32 witnesses in the Yukon territory (didn't say where - darn!!). It was covered in lights, and flew and hovered completely soundlessly, just like the classical report of a mother ship. What I found very interesting was that one of the observors was a surveyor, who carefully noted the position of the front of the ship over that hump in the mountain behind it, the back end was over the lake just there....when he finally did the math on it, it had to have been between .6 and 1.2 MILES in length.

As he observed, there isn't a government on Earth that has a ship that size flying, soundless or not.

So you all might want to keep your eyes open in the next couple weeks.

Well years ago, four of us watching shooting stars in august on a warm clear night, and something appeared like a shooting star, but unlike shooting stars, it zig zagged across the sky, very fast and the turns were like 90 degress, we have no craft (well that I know of) that can do that, and no shooting stars last a couple of minutes it was like
nothing we could figure out what it could be. strange mind you their are coloured flashing lights in my area too, they sit in a three formation and flash then dissappear, no stars can do that!
