I recently purchased myself a hamster, two weeks ago actually, and what didn't dawn on me at the time was, to ask what sex breadstick is. I know how you determine what sex it is, my question is. How can I actually get my hamster in the position to be able to check for sex? Everytime I roll breadstick over he immediately rolls itself backover again. Is there a easier way? Or it is just that hes not comfortable enough yet to be handled like that.

You need to gently cradle him in your hand, he probably feels as though he is going to fall when you put him on his back. Also keep you one hand slightly over him so he feels secure. He should stay put long enough for you to check him. With hamsters, males are very obvious, you should actually beable to tell without even having to turn him over to look. If you aren't sure, it is probably a female.

If he is a male, you can pick him up, and just look at his behind. You can easily tell the difference...

Well thanks for the info. From what I can figure breadstick is a boy, He does appear to have two distictive holes well one large one and one smaller one, with a small line between, i presume that means that breadstick is actually a he. If its possible il get a picture so i can get a second opinion. But hopefully that discription is enough to determine it.

How old is your hamster? Your description sounds more female than male, to me. He should have two desended testicals. Also, the two "holes" you are speaking of will be close together in a female, and farther apart in a male. I am not sure what are you refering to when you say a "small line".

Everywhere I've read its determined by those holes, couldn't see any testicals. Breadstick is between 7-8months old.

Dwarf hamster, think when breadstick wakes up today il just take apicture and hopefully one of you guys can tell which it is.
