I was wondering if you could put a hermit crab in a hamster ball so that they can walk aound the living room and have more freedom for a little while, without scaring the (expletive) out of my mum would it be ok or would it hurt them in some way

thanks in advance
Ryan

You can and I do it all the time. Just make sure the ball opening is big enough to easily get the crabby in and back out. ONe of my big guys likes to splay his legs out making it hard to get him out of the smaller ball.

They need to be on hard floor and not carpet to roll around easily.

If you have other pets, don't leave the crabby unattended. My cat thinks they are for batting around...

but if you put them in them would they need anything and how long could they stay in there (im thinking of getting them for my hermy for the monthly cleanout so he/she would be in there for a while)

p.s i dont have any hermit crabs yet i just want to plan ahead to make sure i can provide for the cute little buggers

Go to www.google.com and look it up. Also try www.hermit-crabs.com okay? I'm ten years old and I have three pet hermit crabs. They're too weak to move around a hamster ball and they're too small

Lolz, yeah, I have heard of numerous people allowing their hermies to run around in hammie balls. It's a good idea, I say.

But remember about what Daethian said, to keep them away from other animals. But also remember to keep them away from stairs. One roll down the stairs and they'll almost certainly die from trauma to their abdomen.

I don't leave mine out to play for longer than an hour, because of the decreased humidity in the air. If you are doing this just for the monthly cleaning it should be okay.

I get my crabs out in their playpen a few times a month and let them all roam the floor and everyone is fine.

Good for you for getting prepared!!
